i got kind of into smite recently, and it was fun, but it felt like i was playing it because i was telling myself “you should learn a multiplayer game! play smite!” and having fun just because i was invested in the current game. i never really WANTED to play it, i just felt like i should. what kind of online/multiplayer games are you into right now?

      Starcraft: Brood war

      You love to see it.

One time I had a housemate who got into Brood War. I knew the game well and so I went zerg 1v1 against them one time. They were either terran or protoss, can’t remember.

I feigned an abortive zergling rush which they beat back easily enough but not so easily that it felt unearned and, in the meantime, I went all-in on building bases in virtually every corner of the map. I had an immense economic base that my unit production couldn’t keep up with.

They took a swing at my first base and had it on the ropes but I clawed it back and then on the recovery I steamrolled the base or two they had built. They thought it was a close game right up until they saw the map and realised that I had the whole damn thing stitched up.

Good times. They lost interest in playing against me tho lol.

yeah, it’s amazing how complex and interesting Brood War is. I still love playing and watching/studying the game.

I wish SC2 could have lived up to it, but they took a huge chunk of strategic depth out of the game by making it so easy to control large armies and have everything move around smoothly. And all the campaign stuff feels like lame Marvel / main-stream young adult junk to me. I feel like it could have been absolutely amazing if it wasn’t designed by capitalists.

I never even looked at SC2 tbh.

I imagine that this was the era of decline for Blizzard though. I recently heard that they completely fumbled the remake of Warcraft 3. How they could manage to do that idk but it’s pretty astonishing.

One day we’ll have socialist gaming studios who put out absolutely bangers consistently.
