Networking noob here. I want to prevent all incoming requests except through a specific port, and that traffic is forwarded to a specific device on the network. NAT seems to do that just fine, it’s almost like a kind of firewall by itself. What kind of threats are there that requires more than just NAT for security?


This article is extremely complex, but if you are technically versed, the method of this uses basic flaws of NAT to allow attackers to come back in NAT ports.

Edit, this probably isn’t at noob level. People who’s entire career/life this is, say for the love of God, don’t think NAT is security. I guess take that for what it’s worth.
