  • As of June 30, 2025, the Foundation’s net assets were $296.6 million, which represents 17.1 months of operating expenses

lol not decades and mostly donations

Revenue: The Foundation’s total revenue increased by $23.2 million, to $208.6 million during fiscal year 2024-2025. The vast majority of this revenue came from donations (including grants from the Endowment), as well as investment income, Wikimedia Enterprise revenue, and other revenue primarily related to a cost sharing agreement with the Wikimedia Endowment, which, to keep the Endowment’s costs down, allows the Endowment to leverage staffing and other resources from the Foundation and reimburse the Foundation for this usage. Donation revenue increased $14.8 million, from $174.7 million to $189.5 million.

How much do you think payroll is? Major layoffs would likely begin in a year if people stopped donating i’d imagine.

Expenses: Our expenses totaled $190.9 million, of which 77.4% went to programmatic activities

That includes their data centers engineering and security payroll from what I read. The bulk of expenses is literally just to run the application smoothly, and keep these employees paid.

The only way to make their funds lasts decades would be to shut down a ton of shit and lay off employees, which would not be something anyone wants.

Dude, practically an entire generation was given a smartphone with games and full internet without restrictions, became so fucking addicted to it that they suffer mental health issues and get traumatized if it’s taken away from them and think it’s like cutting someone’s hand off.

You’re not going to convince them of anything if it means not letting the kid have a phone 24/7 without restrictions.

While I half agree with you, that’s definitely not the only issue.

Senior citizens become people to take care of, that won’t/can’t work and I don’t mean that in a “dear God consider the GDP” way, but literally just people who will not be contributing but still require services, in fact likely a lot more than normal.

It ends up being a lot of neglected senior citizens dying in horrible ways.

  • It’s more that Elon Musk is arguing that “chess is too stupid for me and it will eventually be fully solved” and the other dude is arguing that it’s basically unsolvable given its complexity, and it’s not as simple as he claims.

The history on this is that Elon Musk thinks he’s a super genius and needs to maintain that narcissistic mindset and one really dumb fucking thing that’s come out of that was he claimed he’s above chess because it’s too “simple” and prefers real genius strategy games like RTS.

Now I love RTS but he’s just a narcisstic prick trying to feed his ego and his argument doesn’t go beyond that. He’s not good at chess, probably has a shit ELO, so to convince the world he’s still a super genius he has to provide a good reason why he’s not also a chess grandmaster.

Saying it’s too “simple” and that RTS is more of a showcase kinda solves that conundrum. It allows him to bake in this illusion of being a genius that’s too good for chess, but also probably not great at RTS but in my experience they’re mostly training.

This is narcissist behavior. They fucking love looking like geniuses, especially him. He wants to be seen as this generation’s Tesla, a little boy genius who just opened a rocket science book one day and made the next gen rocket.

Narcissists need to pump up that illusion and anything that proves it might be wrong is sort of emotionally dangerous. In his worldview, geniuses are good at chess, so why isn’t he a natural at it? Well, it’s below him, and it will be fully solved by the AI that the boy genius creates. As dumb as that fucking argument is, it’s all about his ego and maintaining the illusion.
