The world is severely underestimating how fucked the russian war machine is. It really pisses me off how most journalism outlets cover this like there are two powers slugging it out late into a boxing match roughly equal but battered when what this is was a desperate last flailing attack by a boxer who is bloodied, collapsing and utterly getting stomped by the other boxer who is messed up but not collapsing onto the ground.

Russia ran at Ukraine and threw everything it had in a hail mary trying to grind down Ukrainian resolve by targetting heating infrastructure over the winter and the strategy didn’t work… the gamble failed and now Russia is stuck with the blowback from a shitty gamble that DID NOT pan out with the terrifying prospect for their war effort of a dawning spring where Ukraine has the initiative. Russia is going to get fucked up by Ukraine bad this summer, which doesn’t mean Ukraine will necessarily launch a major counter-offensive but rather that Ukraine will smash Russian attacks to pieces in a way that shatters the Russian military apart from the completely unsustainable losses. Every place Russia attacks will get obliterated decisively by localized Ukrainian counterattack and it will devastate what is left of any momentum russia still has.

The biggest reason this pisses me off is that Trump and other shitheads in the west will immediately jump to “Look at Ukraine breaking international law by attacking Russia!” from “sorry but Ukraine will inevitably lose to Russia so we should just give up helping Ukraine” because the international community has not been properly educated on the reality of the Ukraine war as it has evolved in the last several months. Pro-Russian voices will be able to sell this according to the narrative they prefer because the media hasn’t been pointing out how Russia has been utterly bluffing about its strength.

Hate, Violence and Oppression are all fundamentally wave-like phenomena, they don’t simply exist as a single coherent entity that barges through the world colliding with victims, they function as waves that propagate through networks of people, sending pulses of suffering and violence streaking radially through social webs of interaction.

That is what makes these things so evil and why people can be so easily convinced to hate themselves. The arc of reaction is simply that of being hit by the wave of suffering first and then second transmitting it to the next victim whether that be yourself again or another. From the outside you see someone only hurting themselves, only hating themselves and it seems illogical but again that is because we conceptualize these things as not inherently wave-like. Nobody expects to be able to only experience one half of a wave motion, to only feel a push and not a pull, that is not how we understand waves and the same line of thinking should be applied here.

A more interesting question is how do some people manage to NOT experience Hate, Violence and Oppression as a wave? How do you experience these things, resist them and overpower them without simply absorbing the momentum of the wave and transmitting the evil of it in some other form subconsciously or consciously? How do you grab onto a piece of grounding sea floor and hold on so you aren’t sucked out to sea by the current of anger and righteousness? That is in my mind one of the essential unfair crimes of making someone a victim of something, now you have not only hurt someone with whatever act you did, but you have also given them the emotional burden of needing to find a way to resolve the immense emotional forces that surround their experience of being hurt that doesn’t reduce their character or diminish their capacity for love. In my opinion most people are generally very good at doing this, but over a lifetime the hate can build up in the blindspots like crud on a windshield and so in some way you place a person’s soul in danger by asking them to repeatedly respond only with grace.

A lone air defense system is just a target, it only becomes a counter when it is integrated in a network of supporting air defenses and other elements.

Once the sky is full of Ukrainian drones hunting down anything that dares to turn on a radar or present itself as an obstacle to Ukraine’s relentless long range drone strikes, from directions Russia cannot even begin to predict where from… not only has Russia fallen behind in a crucial element of the fight, they have been kicked out of the air war and had the door locked behind them so they can’t get back in.

Another point, the more that drones are used to take out air defenses, the closer Ukrainian aviation can get to lob glide bombs on Russian positions, which also has a massive non-linear effect upon the frontline calculus.

I did not know about the cancer and that genuinely sucks, it gives me some context at least I guess.

Yeah I wouldn’t be upset about that if when I did some research I didn’t find that Jordan Lund has a well documented extremely concerning pattern of silencing Palestinian voices and criticism of Israel. Ok a mod made a snap decision and it was wrong, that isn’t really a problem in isolation but what is a problem is this isn’t in isolation and it is in regards to a vitally important political topic for the US and the entire world. When you search for Jordan Lund you will find post after post talking about being censored for concerning or frivolous reasons as others have abundantly pointed out on this thread.

Fuck antisemitism, but those are bombs from my damn country being dropped on Palestinians, I have a right to talk about it, to make a stink about it, and to raise awareness about it. Similarly Lemmy.World has a RESPONSIBILITY to not just wave their hands and say “I don’t like talking about this can’t we all just be friends!”.

Jordan Lund clearly used it as an excuse to ban an article he did not like, consciously or subconsciously I don’t really care, the evidence doesn’t point in the way of this being a non-political accident regardless.

When people in the future look back and ask what Jordan was doing during the Palestinian Genocide, he will only be able to say he spent all of his time cynically calling into the question the motivations of people who were scared, emotionally impacted and alarmed by the mass murder of innocent children. He will only be able to say that he didn’t believe it, he thought people were whining about it too much. He will not be able to say there was no way he could have known the violence was as real and as horrifying as everyone was saying it was, particularly because he has repeatedly participated in silencing discussion about it as a mod.
