The borser districts are traditionally democratic. They flipped because the republican rhetoric around an invasion is real to them, they get migrants through there all the time. And nationally minded democrats come trhough trying to get elected on gun control and amnesty. It was a bad mix. But now the leopards are eating their faces on several factors. The most the republicans are hoping for is depressed turn out, and outright suppression.

I think the real problem with this is what we’re seeing with software distribution in general. They say, “yes you’re buying a license to the software.” Which in general we have accepted. But at the same time companies get to change the terms of the license at will. And the license is worthless after just a few years as the software becomes defunct.
This is even more pronounced in videogames as once they’re past a certin time if they arent part of a popular catague they just disappear. At least with old games abandonware can be found because the game data is still on old media. In this new ecosystem the publisher can now delete that data off your device whenever they decide that game is abandoned. This includes if the owner of the game hasnt played it in too long. And if you get nostalgic for a classic, “buy it again as part of our subscription service.”
The thing is james patterson barely writes his own books anymore. At this point his popularity just sorta has its own momentum. So slapping his name on a book that a team of writers or ai vomits out is guaranteed sales.

A space strategy/tactics game with realistic physics. Basically ftl stops at the edge of a solar system, and then ships can reach a small percentage of c while traveling within the system. Lasers travel at c, but you have to anticipate where your enemy will be over long distances. Missiles or torpedoes are evn worse with the addition of worrying about fuel consumption to reach their target.
I think it would make for interesting dynamics. How would fighters/drone swarms work? Mines? Bases? How would ambushes work.
