Not really, though. Maybe that money does something the day the holding is bought, but then it just becomes dead weight or even debt since the company might be eyeing it for a buyback. If I buy a stock for $1k today and in 10 years it’s now worth $50k, that $50k isn’t being used by the company to produce. It doesn’t even exist at all until I decide to sell, at which point I keep the money for myself.

3·8 days agoInduction stovetops and ranges are expensive, but induction cooktops are cheap. I’ve been using this one to avoid my gas range for years now. Heats up faster than gas and it plugs in to a normal 120v outlet. Haven’t looked back, except when I absolutely need multiple burners. Maybe I’ll buy a second, lol.
It’s also great for camping.

81·8 days agoI bought a toaster oven and a $50 induction cooktop, and now I almost never have the need to use my gas range. I hate that thing.

5·3 months agoAnd it’s a lifesaver. Even with it, places still try to scam you. I was just in a concert/bar recently that, when asked for water, would give you a $7 can of Liquid Death unless you explicitly specified otherwise. Lots of couples walking around with $14 of water in their hands…

31·3 months agoTo be fair, they did’t say it was because of the shooting. The article is just baselessly implying that.
This time, however, the news came with a rare statement from creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone: “Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done. This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Have you been exposed to an IPv6 address at work?
82·3 months agoI like that none of my local devices are externally addressable unless an outgoing connection has been established. You can (and should) achieve the same thing with ipv6, but then it’s essentially just maintaining a NAT table without the translation piece. I think that makes sense in both protocols.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Have you been exposed to an IPv6 address at work?
122·3 months agoHa, yeah that sucks and I’d absolutely hate it if I were behind a CGNAT. But I believe most ISPs don’t do that. None of mine ever have. Just like how most ISPs provide you with an ipv6 address range, but not all. Fact is that crappy ISPs can screw up your network no matter what ip spec you’re using.
And I’ve never heard of a business network being behind an ISP controlled CGNAT. A NAT you control can be nice.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Have you been exposed to an IPv6 address at work?
128·3 months agoIdk man, NAT makes a lot of sense once you get used to it. And it’s pretty cozy with its firewall features. And somewhat human readable ipv4 addresses are nice.

Fediverse@piefed.social•PieFed just added Really Simple Licensing, to block AI crawlers
2·3 months agoYou could point fail2ban at the access logs and automatically block any ips that are sending a crazy number of requests. Or that are sending bad requests or really however you want to configure it.
It’s a little trickier for public servers, but I run some private web server stuff and use fail2ban to automatically ban anyone that attempts to access the server through the raw ip or non-recognized hostname. I get like 15-25 hits per day doing that.

It’s common for workplaces to install CA certs on work devices then run all traffic through a proxy that decrypts and inspects all traffic.

No, because then the gains become realized and you’d need to pay taxes. Better to take a low-interest loan out against the assets and pay no taxes, like the meme says.
Elon didn’t sell $50B of stock to buy Twitter. He took loans from foreign nationals using stock as collateral.
