  • Not even close to true. Employers live in fear of an employee call to the state labor board. If an employee is accusing the employer, the onus of proof is on the employer. Guilty until proven innocent.

Problem is, no one seems to know this, let alone take action. Look at your post for example, acting like this a federal matter that the employee must pursue with an attorney.

Anyone notice how you’re required to sign or otherwise approve your hours? That’s why. Don’t sign if it isn’t true.

SOURCE: Worked 5 years for a payroll firm with 250 employers. Only had a couple of employees call in the labor board, and those employers where shitting kittens.

As to attorneys, I’ll once again stump for legal insurance. $26/mo. and you can call for advice all you like. “Real” cases like a divorce or a lawsuit are 25% off. I saved more on my divorce and child custody than I will ever pay in. Speaking of, the state is fucking me on child support, literally taking half my check. Half. Made a call, need to give the lawyer some docs, they’ll handle it.

And that kids is the major difference between rich and poor, legal representation.

I’ll say it again, CEO pay ain’t the problem. Did the math once for American Airlines, then McDonald’s just lately. If the CEO took $0 pay, and that was spread among total employees, it amounts to chicken change.

Hell, let’s take aim at Microsoft, why not.

In fiscal year 2024, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s total compensation was $79.1 million. This represents a 63% increase compared to his prior year’s compensation of $48.5 million.

And most of that was stock, not cash.

The increase is primarily due to a significant rise in the value of his stock awards, which accounted for the majority of his compensation.

They have 228,000 employees. Spread that around and it amounts to a $347 yearly bonus. (Or, $.17/hr. if you like.) If I worked at M$, I’d be fucking insulted if that was my Christmas Bonus. Hell, my last job was at a tiny software dev and we all got 10x that much, sometimes more.

  • I voted in the Florida special election for our 1st district rep, knew damned well she’d lose. But here’s the important bit, she didn’t lose as badly as expected. And the other race was a good bit closer than expected.

We can call people like MTG an idiot, but even an idiot can look at an Excel sheet and see slippage. So yes, vote, even for a certain loser. They are paying attention.

  • Can’t get my head around this, especially after Somali pirates became a thing, article didn’t help. If armed men are trying to board my ship, I’m shooting back. These men didn’t sign up to be soldiers, but self-defense is not only a human right, it’s common sense. You have no idea what those pirates will do to you. Couple of dudes with scoped AR-15s would make short work of these jokers, just lead 'em a little. For that matter, equip them with real hunting rifles.

Take a look at the article picture. Those guys would be lucky to hit any damned thing with that tiny boat skipping over ocean waves. Try running and gunning, even with airsoft. No matter what you have to pause to shoot and these ships can’t pause. Meanwhile, the defenders have the high ground and a perfectly stable platform. And it’s not like the pirates can get the drop on ship’s radar.

    What am I missing here?

  • I so miss the Radio Shack of my youth. Back in the 70s and 80s they had real salesmen, in ties and everything. Those guys knew everything! Or, at least they did to my young mind. It was a real job for people who loved electronics and knew the space. Now it’s bored teenagers trying to sell you a phone and overpriced RC crap.

They had a huge catalog I’d wear out every year, literally in taped-up tatters, lusting over all the goodies, even the parts I was clueless about. (Fuck is an RF choke?! I want one.) I’d count and roll pennies, constantly referencing prices and dad to buy me a switch, LED, lamp, circuit board, anything at all. My first big purchase was a Realistic CD player. You could drop kick that thing and if it skipped at all, it would resume perfectly.
