Not every American, obviously.
But as a nation, institutionally, America is racist.
Some times it’s more so than others, but it always is, to varying degrees throughout its history.
201·4 days agoWhy is the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Second Lord of the Treasury having to build corporate relationships by accepting bribes in the first place?
I understand it’s a very mild bribe in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still free goods and services in the hope of getting something in return that they wouldn’t normally. A bribe.
Some of the newer style locks have a tray that you have to sit the coin in and slide the tray in. A bit like the OG PS2 disc tray. So unfortunately this tool isn’t universal.
But for the traditional slot on the front style, yeah, that’d be cool.

Depends on the country, in Scotland it’s free.
Well… Free at the point of use. We pay what’s called council tax which is a tax on the value of your home (even if renting) to cover services like street lamps, sewage, water, libraries, rubbish removal, etc.
But, it’s free to use as much as you want. I could leave my taps on all day if I wanted, there’s no meter, no charge per litre. So considering I have to pay that tax just to live, water is essentially free.
Obviously some countries have more access to water than others, but those without the worry of drought or rationing should definitely have free at the point of use water.
Fuck private interests, fuck profiteering, water is essential for all life, socialist public controlled water for all is the way to go. You only have to look at the water scandals of England to see what private control of water gets you.
As Tywin Lannister said “Any man who must say, “I am the King”, is no true king.”
Any man who goes around telling everyone they’re brave, probably isn’t brave. In fact it’s incredibly cringe.
A cringe country full of cringe people who say one thing but do another. Claim to stand for freedom, democracy, and liberty whilst oppressing all of those things both at home and abroad.

To be fair, saying to be fair and giving examples of it happening in the past doesn’t justify allowing it to happen again.
The powerful cannot be allowed to control such fundamental aspects of our lives as how we communicate with one another.
And yet it’s happened. It is happening. Some times more brutally than others. From Pictish, as you said, to Palestinians today. In comparison, Gaelic may have had it easy, but it still doesn’t make it okay.
Every aspect of our lives is Anglicised, from our media to our way of speech. I can speak fluent English and understand many weird accents. I can barely get by in Gaelic without Google Translate, and I’m fucked if anyone has even a bit of a weird accent. I can tell you more about the politics of London or Manchester than I can my own city. I know how the English and American legal systems work far better than I do my own. My friends talk about English football teams, not local ones they have a connection to. English and American propaganda media have taken over the world. Even such cultural titans as the French are under attack from Anglicisation and have bodies like the Académie Française to ensure French stays French. Apply this same concept across the globe and it’s scary to think about how much influence English has, how many cultures are dying because of it. And therefore, how many people a media empire can influence.
Now you may say, “but nobody’s forcing you to consume English media” and this is true. But that wasn’t always the case, Gaelic was persecuted and oppressed over a period of years. It has only seen a resurgence in numbers since devolution, and the regained ability to control some aspects of our lives. Less than 2% of the population understand it now. Why oppress a culture and a language that is no longer a threat? How many Gaelic speakers does that leave to create Gaelic media?
Culture wars work, they just take a long fucking time.

It’s hard to sincerely say you’re part of that culture if you can’t even say that in your own tongue. Best you can do is say you’re British which is just a ball hair away from being English.

I understand they use adverts, but that doesn’t mean they need to know everything about me.
As DuckDuckGo put it, they display adverts by displaying relevant ads based on searches. You searched for a car? They display car adverts. You searched for a book? They display adverts for a new novel.
They don’t need a track of and psychological analysis of every person’s habits.
The fucking Guardian, of all papers, is partially paywalled now. Either you give up your privacy, or you hand over money.
