Should be worth mentioning that a VPS is a shared instance in terms of CPU use. Hosting heavy things on it will only slow you down.

Wireguard tunnels and the like though should be good!

I used gitlab for a while, but it was a bit resource-heavy for my two whole projects. So just a heads up I suppose.

It kind of also depends on the OS. And before the comments start; As with anything, situation & a bit of luck go a long way.

But Linux based machines can be left enabled for months, some times even years. Windows I Honestly wouldn’t trust beyond a few months and even that would seem too much for my own taste.

I reboot my systems monthly most of the time, usually paired with updates. But my main host is Windows serv, which gets daily reboots (power savings, I don’t need it on when I sleep), and the VMs on that are frozen & unfrozen so they are on for about a month or more until I do the above.

I keep everything in my brain.

Has its perks… no need to write things down.

But it’s easy to momentarily forget the little things that come with, say, reinstalling everything.

Being to poor to get a proper system, so now I have older Xeon CPU, tons of RAM and a irreplaceable motherboard that is also SFF.

It only draws 100 watts idle, but that shit adds up :(
