And all the people who paid for a pardon.
There isn’t anything interesting here.

Technology@lemmy.world•U.S. Tech Layoffs Hit Two-Decade High in OctoberEnglish
1·2 months agoAh, I see what you mean now. Thanks. I’m trying to get my employer to allow me to relocate to the UK as they have an office there (putting aside Brexit and all the stupid decisions of late they have been making). It’s an uphill battle where at any point someone could veto the decision because they don’t want to have to deal with the headache. I need a bigger company that is willing to go the distance with the legal hoops. That’s usually a massive company like the ones you mention as opposed to a smaller companies that I tend to work for.

141·2 months agoIs that written into laws? No. But you know who made the original government? People who decided to make their own shit.
We have more information and better access to new decisions. We can simply decide to start over collectively and start once again. We don’t have to do things because that’s the way they have always been (in our individual lifetime).

672·2 months agoI was just telling my best friend that I think this shutdown is going to go on for six to eight months. Possibly to the point where the pot boils over and the government gets thrown away because it was closed for so long.
At least, one can dream that after months of bitter pain and suffering, we might possibly get people who care about others running a government. But that’s a whole hell of a serving of pain and suffering before we get there.
Fuck it, let’s general strike this place. Medicare for all with the govt reopen and all those critical services back or nothing ever happens again.

Fedibridge@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Post on /r/Technology complaining about the drop in quality in the majority of the big subs and the potential drop of old.reddit, people ask where to go, Lemmy and Piefed are mentionedEnglish
21·4 months agoNot OP; just a guess: old.reddit.com is a way to view and interact with Reddit using the original theme (or closely based on original look). A ton of tools were built for the site to look for data in a specific format. Many users likely utilize this “old” Reddit due to using legacy tools. It’s a way to get people onto the newer product so you can retire old infrastructure.
Basically, an enshittification decision by Reddit because they need to make more money.

It really isn’t. The designation should be meaningful because it is. So what are you even talking about?!

11·8 months agoI agreed with most of the opinion. However, I found myself often wishing the author had citations for their interpretation of current events.
The Trump administration has made it clear to companies with federal contracts that if any of their employees say anything bad about the administration, those companies will lose said contracts.
Here is one that is just generic enough that I can’t find much in terms of information. It would have been nice for the author to do that. Then again, perhaps would have been simply a bit too to manage for an opinion writer.
Accurate grim view for those of us who can’t leave.

Even if a company has the ability to detect issues, that doesn’t mean they also are investing in paying a peon to monitor and handle the issues. This could be an area where there is a gap or a lack of resources to manage all the alarms. That is not to say I have any clue what’s actually going on though.
