getoffthatchronic@lemdro.idtoUnited States | News & Politics@midwest.social•MIT study finds AI can already replace 11.7% of U.S. workforceEnglish
51·2 months agoThis isn’t even about competency really as the cost of AI is being artificially depressed through all of these businesses running at a loss. It might be insane to stick in a blender with US labor statistics. Hopefully not the kind the WH uses?
There are a lot of different things falling under the umbrella of AI. You’re right to be skeptical of an algorithm’s ability to estimate another algorithm’s ability in practice. They’re testing how well the buzzword tech can move the needle on numbers the fed obsesses over. Really pigeonholing the tech into profitability. Best uses of this tech will be in balancing electricity flows through the country, with inputs including population + industry usage, weather patterns & other renewable energy variables (these are very much a social good but you can already hear capital hissing at the thought). Humans already operate many cybernetic systems that turn on volition, with inputs adjusted to make them exploitative. Streamlining them is going to rip the balls right off for sure. As I often quote Michael Parenti by recently, “You’re stupid if you think they’re stupid,” it goes nicely with “the purpose of a system is what it does.”

1·2 months agoI’m sure there is plenty of chaff to cut in finance and healthcare etcetera, in my heart I want to believe in a coming Burger Decimation, but US labor statistics are absolutely cooked. Having read practically nothing about the model they’re using, I would appreciate if anyone can tell how accurate it is.

Google@lemdro.id•Google doesn't want to be held responsible for OS-level age assuranceEnglish
1·2 months agoYeah, it’s something that made me think of the age of the operating system itself, since that’s been a discussion recently with Motorola.
To get imaginative, in a mode pf production beyond capitalism, though, I think the device level age locking would be pretty sick. I get that a lot of people had what they consider helpful formative experiences on the internet, but hearing about them, I think they are just nostalgic and those experiences weren’t as valuable as they imagined.
Many will disagree with me because they haven’t considered this is the only way to let adults play counter-strike without the damn kids in the way.

14·2 months agoDo you seriously think that anybody is going to invade Japan? You’re completely missing my point about the rail guns. They’re not even going to play a part in war with China. Japan knows this

17·2 months agoFascism is when the United States bankrolls fascists, and scoops up all of their loot after the war. It seems like you’re unclear why the US is even allied with Japan in the first place. Is that how you think the world works: countries like each other, they love each other, they want to protect each other against the bad countries? I must be such a fun view of the world. Have you ever seen that Team Fortress 2 short where we get to experience the Pyro’s worldview?

17·2 months agoDid I say that or did I say that they’re buying dinky little water pistols when they’re itching to be struck with an ICBM? Because that seems like a much bigger issue than whether I personally support Japan’s remilitarization, which I just framed as a threat to global security. By essentializing Japan’s response to what you see as Chinese aggression, you’re just doing apologetics for fascism.

1·2 months agoI got scared off by the interface, I might give it a second try. My solution to the issues of COMAPS is to heavily bookmark geolocations in other apps. Resorting to proprietary solutions for emergencies (Yandex is pretty great outside countries like the US which do not like them).

110·2 months agoKeep dreaming about railguns, it took a substantial amount of meth to make Hitler this delusional. Japanese and Western folks have no such excuse. When push comes to shove, these guns had better be targeting Dongfeng missiles. That’s how wars are fought nowadays.

Meta@lemdro.id•Meta wants to get into the electricity trading businessEnglish
1·2 months agoWhat a great idea. All of these companies should just pass electricity back and forth until resistance gets rid of it. That seems right up their alley.

The idea the Graphene devs are toxic doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. People just don’t respond well to their critiques and think a media dogpile will be less energy.
