He was right, I’m tired of ‘winning’
Yep, I didn’t get my dedicated room, it just didn’t work out but I’m maximizing the space I have to work with.
TV is supposed to be delivered/installed today, hoping that goes smooth. Not something I would normally do, but these things are gigantic.
in our case the primary seating position is about 13 ft from the screen making the larger screen a little more important due to the layout. The couch is aligned with the side speakers where they can be and that’s where the seating is
For me, for my use case it’s primarily because of the size TV I want. Mine is going in the basement on a wall where I want the biggest TV I can afford. That means I could get an 83" screen in OLED or a 98-100" QLED. 15" difference is pretty dramatic.

Running@lemmy.world•Strava Prepares For Potential IPO After A Big Year Of Expansion
5·27 days agoThey lost me a while ago when they first started moving existing features behind paywalls.
Going public just means they’ll need to find ways to grow 20% a year or be failing… Seems like subscription increases incoming! They no longer get my engagement or data so it won’t impact me.

Running@lemmy.world•Why Runners Have Extremely Low Heart Rates—Is It Training Or Genetics?
6·29 days agoThe article was interesting, and they are trying to say there’s a chance that people who genetically have a lower HR, may tend to end up being more athletic which might lower it even more (and also put them at the higher scale of performance abilities) it’s a lot of guessing.
And the last paragraph of the article was kinda stupid. Ain’t nobody cruising around at 34bpm or 40bpm. I assume they mean to say if your training partners RHR is 34 to your mid 40’s don’t lose any sleep over it, but as worded using ‘cruise around’ and ‘same mileage’ makes it sound, to me, like they’re referring to while exercising.
So if your training partner can cruise around with a 34 bpm heart rate while you sit in the mid-40s on the same mileage, that may reflect genetics as much as grit. That may be a frustrating or reassuring conclusion, and it may depend on which side of that heart rate threshold you sit on.

8·1 month agoIndiana price increase in 2025 ~20% (I believe the new rates went into effect in November, and this does not include a base increase for having your house connected to the grid. I believe it was $10/mo increase making that % even larger.

I moved away from Strava when they first started putting stuff behind a paywall, and just keep everything inside Garmin. But can’t stand that they’ve come up with connect+ BS
I won’t watch it there either

Cars - For Car Enthusiasts@lemmy.world•Consumer Reports says the 3 most reliable car brands in North America are Toyota, Subaru and LexusEnglish
9·2 months agoSo, I see Toyota, expensive Toyota, and Subaru.
I’m a bit of a Toyota fanboy, I own a 2008 Tundra I bought new that’s been the best vehicle I’ve owned, however the new one has not been fairing well in the reliability department (the new engine has issues). I have heard from a few sources (one personal friend) that Toyota quality has dropped the last decade too. If that’s the case, what does that say about the others below these three?
You can still be best even if the “whole” group’s quality/reliability is going down I guess.
Ya, I get it, and anything smart now needs to be able to work with home assistant locally.
If we had to do it over again we’d have likely gotten something different, but the features you do get can be useful!

Ya, as others have said… esp32 (or esphome)
I have a 4 temp sensor (two DS18B20) that are attached to my in/out water lines to my geothermal water loop, and 2 (DHT22) in the air stream showing/logging IN/OUT air temp.
Don’t mind my terrible ms paint drawing :)
