So first off, I want to say I really appreciate how respectful your comment is. I’ve voiced my opinion on this topic before and oftentimes guys get pretty freaking rude. I’ve seen some guys get really nasty with women voicing an opinion specifically about women’s pockets before. So I truly do appreciate you.

IMO, it is likely that fashion companies make too much money off of purses to add pockets. Why add a small amount of fabric for pennies when you could sell an entire accessory for $15+, and that’s a cheap purse, many can go for a significant amount more.

I also believe there is also an element of sexism that is baked in from over a century ago. Many of the comments that are “if women wanted them, they would have them” echo the same comments on flyers against pockets from the 1910s. A great book about this topic is Pockets An Intimate History of How We Keep Things by Hannah Carlson. She pulls a lot of examples from history about why women don’t have pockets and how long we have been asking why we don’t, she incudes an article from the NYT from 1899 asking that question. Another example is when women were fighting for our right to vote, the antis thought we could hide things in pockets like flyers or it was assumed we would use them for scandalous things like tobacco and our own money. Women also used to have pockets in skirts for a long time, but as we gained rights, purses were pushed in and pockets were pushed out.

To your second point, I don’t think it would cost that much and definitely not so much that women wouldn’t purchase them. Below is a picture of two pair of jeans I own. Both are thin in the thighs with flares at the bottom and cost roughly the same amount. The one on the right, the pocket barely goes up to my second knuckle, these are jeans that I can maybe clip my knife and keep a lighter in one pocket, but it’s likely the lighter will fall out. The one on the left, while not as large as men’s pockets, fits my entire hand, I can keep my phone, cash, or ID in those pockets without having to worry about them falling out. The amount of fabric between the two is not that much and the cost would not be too crazy.

Different teas require different temperatures to have the best taste. If you brew a green or oolong too hot, it can get very bitter. Electric kettles allow you to set specific temperatures for the drink you have and some keep the water at that temperature for periods of time.

My journey here took a while. I was on the standard Reddit app for a while, then they started promoting that “He Gets Us” bullshit ad. I blocked the account and it was gone for a while, then it showed up again. I had been dabbling with the Apollo app and I switched to that to avoid those stupid ads. Then the API stuff happened, I logged off and never logged back on again.

I went to Threads for a bit, which was nice because I had IRL friends there. Then Meta changed the community rules where calling trans folks mentally ill and bullying LGBTQ+ folks wasn’t considered inappropriate. So I logged off and didn’t log back on until I deleted my account in January 2024.

I joined Mastadon, which is nice, but it’s not easy for a newer, not quite techy user to figure things out. I figured it out, but I get why some folks find it confusing.

Then I joined BlueSky and hung out there for a bit. I still do because I like to follow specific reporters and organizations. But I soon realized, I don’t really like the short form formatting, so I joined Lemmy, then swapped to piefed recently.

Since then, I’ve been hanging out here for actual discussions and on BlueSky for breaking news and info.

I’ll give you points for the elegant part because formal dresses are hard to add pockets to. But my bootie is currently sitting in a pair of form fitting flare jeans with functional sized pockets. There are pockets added to workout leggings to at least carry phone, ID, and keys in. I also have some cute skirts and dresses with functional sized pockets. I don’t want cargo pants size pockets, but at least enough to hold my ID and some cash without fear of losing them.

These things do exist, they are just hard to find because companies don’t manufacture them. Most women I know would buy pants with functional sized pockets even if they didn’t use them and pretty much every woman I know has complained about our barely able to hold a chapstick sized pockets.

I just want to say, this is not true. I have a couple pairs of jeans, some skirts, and a few super cute dresses that all have functional sized pockets and yes some are tight fitting and “sexy”. Even my workout leggings have functional pockets. We can have both, they are just difficult to find because so many companies add pockets that can barely hold a chapstick.

Yeah, I agree with this. I’ve shopped looking specifically for pants with appropriate sized pockets and they are hard to find. When the local Kohls was closing, I bought 8 pair of pants at about a dollar a piece. Only 1 had real pockets, the others weren’t even big enough to keep a lighter or chapstick in place, they always fell out.

Now, I only buy pants with appropriate sized pockets. And if I find a pair that I really like the fit, I will rip out those shitty little things and put adult size pockets into it.

My favorites are the very few super cute dresses that actually have real pockets. My friends and I always get very excited!

I get the second part, my TBR is basically my book collection and this year I’m trying to get the read to unread ration better. It’s pretty bad now.

Reading more diversely is a good thing. I started doing that a few years ago and I found a lot of great authors and stories out there.

My bunnies know they get fresh hay before I go upstairs to bed. My boy bun will run back and forth between looking at me and looking down the hall to the garage where his hay is. My girl bun will hop on the couch and glare at me with her adorable look of disappointment. They tell me to go to bed so they get food lol

That’s still a good goal. It’s kind of like my goal, to get through some of the books in my personal collection, my read to unread ratio is embarrassing. I hope you enjoy Don Quixote if you do pick it up.

That does sound like fun. Now you have me considering trying to read some horror in Spanish, but I’m not sure my Spanish is that good yet.

I know what you mean, at times I have found myself using sticky tabs in books where I really like a line. I know a lot of folks do that with series like ACOTAR and longer fantasy novels to keep track of timelines and character arcs. I hope you find a good way to get it to work for you.

I think no goals and just read is a great goal! I used to push myself more, but I think I’ve finally got the habit down enough that I don’t need to. I’m at the point where I read more than I watch tv.

My backlog is kind of crazy too. My TBR is basically my bookcase 🤣
