6·1 天前I think you just listed all the best parody material, to be honest. “Happy Souls” is fun too:

Edit: Okay, Happy Ring is worth a chuckle or two:

5·1 天前I’m considering an Elden Ring replay. It’s been a couple years. Last time was a Samurai build - the starting weapon was so good, I just upgraded it right through to the very end. Any recommendations on alternate builds for a new challenge? I also haven’t even touched the DLC yet.

4·2 天前Make no mistake. The Arab Spring also taught governments around the world that “shut off the internet” is a crucial element in crushing mass dissent.

7·2 天前It’s also worth mentioning that the bandwidth requirements of actual, honest, information and news, are appallingly low. The level of slop and waste in our current social media landscape is in no way representative of what it takes to communicate effectively.
100 years ago we used to get the word out to broadcasters at 100 baud over teletype.
So, imagine a network that uses less than 1% of the bandwidth we currently use. It’s a pocket-sized situation that almost disappears into the noise of everything else, yet is free, accessible, and effective. Radio and mesh networks are absolutely up to the task, even if they have to be covert and/or mobile.

To be fair, black-hole-ing a traumatic memory absolutely happens to people. That said, that reaction is absolutely not how to go about resurfacing that kind of thing. If anything it needs to be handled with way more care than self-reported trauma.
I was gonna say. Didn’t he do this last time when everyone’s water pipes froze and the power went out?
But there are studies that say tattooing provides women and particularly survivors of sexual trauma a sense of ownership and authority over their bodies.
Thank you. I was wondering what I was missing when thinking all this through. I don’t have any myself, but have wondered about the range of motivations for folks that get more than one. I figured it was at least tribal and wealth (expensive, can’t be stolen) expression. Body modification as a way to exercise autonomy and agency - that absolutely tracks with folks I’ve met.

30·4 天前That’s nothing. They used to put the stuff in cigarette filters.

The only northern lights I’ve ever seen were in Iceland. Honestly, the conditions were less than ideal and what I did see was very dim to the naked eye.
What a lot of people don’t know is that a camera (like on your phone) picks up even the faintest aurora with ease. I have pictures that make the whole thing look many times more vibrant than what I could see.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How far do you wear your daily shoes out before bothering to replace them?
10·4 天前Where it gets really crazy is where you have a few pairs that you rotate through for “daily wear”. A whole decade can slip by before you go “how long have I had these?”
I don’t care a whole lot about fashion so “until they stop working correctly” is about the best answer I can give.
It’s really the worst. For the uninitiated, the platen where your bags go is actually a scale. The self-check-kiosk software waits for this bagging scale to quit moving (see: de-bouncing) before weighing and approving the scan and purchase of a single item. This is why, occasionally, if you’re too fast or too slow, the kiosk gets angry and makes you flag down an attendant.
That’s not a problem for 10 items or less, but for a whole cart? All that waiting around adds up. Because of all that, it’s literally impossible to achieve the same or better speed than an employee.

News@lemmy.world•'I don't know how he's alive': RFK Jr. comments on Trump's diet in new interview
5·9 天前After watching president after president age like milk, I’m convinced that it’s not the stress of office alone doing it. Even during normal times, it’s an incredibly demanding position without a lot of room for downtime. Add an attending physician to the mix and you’re good to go, packed to the gills with uppers, downers, antibiotics, blood thinners, beta-blockers, anti-parasitics, testosterone, you name it. While you’re able to keep the schedule of a 30-year-old this way, you’re also burning the candle at both ends and in the middle. It’s little wonder that such a person can more or less shake off a bad diet at 80+.

movies@piefed.social•James Cameron Says He Must Find a Cheaper Way to Produce the Avatar Movies in Order to Continue With Avatar 4 and 5 - IGN
101·9 天前Easily done:
- Wait for AI bubble to burst
- Buy render farm on the cheap
- Avatar 4
Although I’m assuming that the raw rendering pipeline is what costs the most. I could be dead wrong about that - there’s a whole army of artists, technical people, and actors that go into such a production too.

All I know is: when a Python compliments your joke, you may have just peaked. Whoever wrote that needs to print it, frame it, and perhaps have it signed.
