This thread so far has been about extra judicial killing, but can vigilantism encompass less drastic actions? Do you think it is fair to say that the reaction on Reddit/Lemmy every time “the rapist Brock Allen Turner” is mentioned falls under the third type of vigilantism, in the sense that he recieved a light consequence compared to the acts he was proved to have committed? Is the social backlash and the (imo deserved) chorus of “oh the rapist?” in response to his name a form of societal vigilantism?

Your last sentence immediately made me think of that guy that raped a girl behind a dumpster and then got let off because a judge thought consequences might damage his future. I don’t think anyone should kill him, but I’m happy he doesn’t get any peace on the internet, and i wish he was in jail.

I don’t think he’s funny and I actually think he’s kind of a weenie and I don’t like him very much as a person, but I actively watched his return episode and now I let his show run in the background to boost viewership.

I do not have the means to donate to things that I care about. Most weeks, the difference between overdrafting my bank account or not is literally a few cents. I donate the $3.10 every time the pop up shows up on Wikipedia. I’m sure there are other organizations that need the money more, but I think Wikipedia is SO important, and so far has remained earnest in their behavior. This is why I love the sims, I get obsessed for x amount of time. I go to work if I have to, but then I’ll play sims every other second I can, I’ll even bring the laptop into the bathroom with me. Won’t sleep, won’t cook, won’t shower, etc. And then… all of a sudden, mid game even, I’m just… done. For months. Or years. And it’s a sandbox game, it’s literally digital barbies, so I can just stop and start over with a whole new game later. If im playing a more traditional game, I NEED to 100% it. I NEED a walk through to make sure I don’t make any wrong choices, it almost takes some of the fun out of it, so I don’t play those kinds that often (my roommate recently let me play Spiritfarer on her console, she had 40hrs and 98% and was like "its not important to the story and i cant find the last one… I got to 100% after 84 hours. We are not the same)

I love to send and recieve “ugly” or silly pics with my friends and lovers, that doesn’t mean I want them posted on the internet. Idk this girl, we’re not friends irl, maybe she’s fine with it. If someone that I trusted and loved posted a picture of me making a face like the face the girl in this picture is making, mid sentence, with my eyebrows furrowed and my tongue looking weird like I’m in the middle of a word, I would be really embarassed, especially if it then got memeified and shared over and over and over again.

This is not a criticism of the girl in the picture whatsoever. Anyone saying “this is a great picture!” is being ingenuine on purpose. She’s a pretty girl. This is a bad picture of her. Both can be true.

Also this is not meant to be an aggressive comment! But the internet takes things too seriously sometimes.

Interesting. I work 10 hour shifts 4 days a week with a 30 minute unpaid break, so my schedule is 8am to 630pm, and am required to clock out from 1:30-2p. I leave my house at 7:05am and get home around 720pm. My salaried boss takes a 1 hour break and works from 745a to 345p five days a week. I MUST take my break at 130 for “liability” reasons. My boss takes his break anywhere from 1145 to 2, and if he waits too late to eat he just skips it and leaves early. I wish the lunch break was paid, even those stupid 30 extra minutes would be a game changer for my “work life balance”.

Right?! So many people talking abt trust, and disrespecting her stuff… the plushie is fine. If my man posted a pic of me that looked like that I would be like “oh, this man hates me, got it.” Girl is obviously a cutie, but like, yikes this photo is bad.

Is there a word for bad nostalgia? Is it just regret? That doesn’t sound quite right. I thought i’d outgrown these feelings and put them away, but seeing this meme brings them back full force. The panic, the instant guilt, the sorrow that all comes with looking over the edge of the bed and seeing my lil cabbage patch kid all crumpled up on the floor. Even now I can feel the surge of adrenaline from leaning just a little too far out of bed, almost falling out myself. Just being able to reach one little ruffle on dolly’s jammies, just enough to snatch her off the ground, scoop her into bed, and sob and apologize, but deep down I know sorry will never be enough to make up for tossing her on the ground in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the morning cry. Probably gonna have to go to my mom’s house after work and see if I can find my old stuff.
