Today I learned about non-military “civil defence” which this seems to be an example of. It was an interview on the new “elbows up” podcast. Many countries have much more robust programs (Scandinavia, Northern Europe). Like the entire population being trained in first aid, preparedness, and communications. Lots also have mandatory military service or at least more trained reserves.

Myers & co captured the 80s rocker character well. They/we were everywhere then. But it’s a silly movie so doesn’t quite fit with your theme.
My original thought was Fast Times. Just searched quintessential gen x movies and it came up on top of the list along with all the others mentioned here. Oddly I haven’t seen half of them lol

These US businesses operate in other countries solely to extract revenue from their governments and consumers. We (Canadian here) should be so lucky to have them disappear so we can build economic and cultural independence. Such a change will not be made by the US. Instead, we cut them off.
Was hoping to read what triggered her being picked up by US authorities. Article doesn’t say until right at the end that she was turned away at the Canadian border … but doesn’t say why.
