ByteOnBikes@discuss.onlineOPtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•We pay microtransactions on life
75·1 day agoI pay for insurance and then pay copay.
And then I pay a school tax and pay for school lunch and fees.
And my health insurance doesnt cover teeth so I have that as separate.
And I pay a tax on my food and then if it’s a specific type of food, I pay a tax on that.
I also pay taxes and yet my friends pay $2800 to put their kids in a day care.

People and business?
Business and the economy?
Company changes?

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit files lawsuit against Australia after site is banned for anyone under 16
1·2 days agoI haven’t had a Reddit account in two years. Unless they learn how to ban my router.
I’m okay with never stepping foot in Australia. They check your devices when you land and I’ve never been okay with that.
Not if there are dogs, or bees. Or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark, they shoot bees at you.

Gotta love it
Give me a week long battery.
I got a Chromebook that lasts like seven days sleeping and 30 hours that I booted with Linux. It has headphone jacks. It has three USB ports. It also cost like $300.
It was awesome for light coding and browsing, and lasted 10 years.
Still got sweats going, “Eww it’s notApple/isGoogle/cantplayCrysis/cant3DModelWhileWatching4K.”
Yeah I would have been fine with this a decade ago but now this guy is listening to Joe Rogan and asking me questions like, “Hey so what’s up with that vaccine thing?”

3·3 days agoLadies are not sharing state secrets with this fella unless he has max charisma and max wisdom.
At a Indian restaurant, the waiter said, “We have regular and spicy… And Indian spicy.” Then he goes, “I usually don’t offer Indian spicy to everybody”. I’m brown, and I was given special treatment. But honestly I think I broke his heart when I asked for regular because he thought I could hang.
Sorry man! 😭
I don’t think they were gifts.
They were daily threats.

Ah so you’re just like the security guard who killed a innocent dad.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•id Software released its first game 35 years ago today, John Carmack’s breakthrough side-scroller engine — Commander Keen title brought smooth scrolling to PCsEnglish
5·3 days agoI honestly didn’t play any non-RPGs on the PC until a couple of years ago.
I finally tried Commander Keen after it was compared to Nintendo Super Mario Bros 3.
It did not age like Super Mario Bros 3. At all.

7·3 days agobut I’m learning that a LOT of people are either / or with phones and computers;
My knee jerk reaction was to say something smart ass like “well they should get a computer” but you’re absolutely right.
The customer service woman I talked to was surprised I could talk to her and browse the internet (on a laptop). She told me most people use their phone for everything. I met college kids who were typing their papers on their phones. My mom never owned a computer until I gave her one, and she leaves it in the corner “for emergencies”.
I have no answer. People will continue uploading their lives into Google photos, Facebook galleries, whatever - with no backup, and hope those companies store their data. I think the average person is fucked.

Don’t ever put anything secure/critical in places that aren’t yours.
I would wear them if I could. Unfortunately, to wear the heart ones would mean I can’t wear sweet ninja turtles/sonic/Mario boxers.

161·3 days agoI stay away from all the micro tech drama and I feel like two years ago, that community was bitching that raspberry pi sold out and everyone should switch to arduino.
I don’t have a side. I just pick whatever is easiest to make a emulation station.
