Yeah each scene works for itself, but together it doesn’t create something that has anything to say. Every plot point has been seen somewhere else already, so it’s not like there’d be any big surprises.
I think Darem’s story suffers most. It’s ironic if his bride says “Jay-Den talks about a side of yours I have never seen” if they all talk about a Darem we have never seen before. Not sure what the authors were thinking in this episode.
Meh, didn’t really care for this episode. The wedding stuff would have interested me more if we were already more invested in Darem and his culture, but there is too much going on at the same time (lore-wise).
As for the academy stuff, don’t know. Considering Giamatti is in this show, I hoped Genesis, Caleb and Reno would do a The Holdovers, but the entire premise falls flat. Again, too much in one episode. Genesis is first about to be recommended into that Captains program and in the same episode not. Wish this would have been more of a storyline between episodes.
After I thoroughly enjoyed the past episodes this is the weakest episode of the series so far to me.

I thought this was 90210 in space, according to all the haters. Can anyone tell me in which episode of 90210 the cannibals try to eat everyone?
Thought this was a fantastic episode, the setup was good with the practice mission. Not the biggest fan of another sudden ambush after the pilot episode, but I think it worked well enough. Crazy that they actually killed someone from the main supporting cast, but at least it wasn’t Kyle.
My biggest complaint were probably the action scenes. It’s just a fast blurry mess of dark to me.
Oh and I thought B’avi was called Bobby.
But it wasn’t consistent in Deep Space 9 already, within a couple of seasons, sometimes episodes.
That it’s not consistent what Trill remember and what not. Sometimes Dax knows everything about her former hosts, sometimes nothing. Sometimes the hosts are important, sometimes the symbiont.
How could you forget about Keiko! Lol
I remember an early (season 2?) DS9 episode where Sisko had to remind Dax that one of her previous hosts had a specific skill which they needed in that situation, but Dax was like “Oh yeah you’re right.” So either these memories are so deep in their subconsciousness or… I don’t know.
As I said, I don’t like the Trill as a concept and they were regularly my least favourite episodes in DS9.
My understanding is that only the religious leaders of Bajor could feel it, if it even was possible to feel it. So some college student shouldn’t be able to do it anyway.
The Pagh thing to me just looked like it was a traditional form of a greeting with no real meaning behind it.

I totally agree with her that DS9 is a very overlooked series, especially compared to TOS (basically got DIS season 1 and 2 and SNW), TNG (Picard and LD) and Voyager (Prodigy? Not sure, only watched the beginning so far) which all got spinoffs of sorts. But DS), despite being called the best Trek series very often? Nada.
I think using Dax as a link is a clever idea (because they transcend time), and she plays the role well, but I just don’t like the Trill because it’s never quite clear how much they remember from past hosts. Then there’s this thing where they meet all their previous hosts, and if you lived for a thousand years, this is just gonna take a year now lol
They also just introduced one of the main characters of TNG in season 4, even referencing a TNG movie. It is wild to assume Star Trek was never self-referential lol
Makes sense. Apparently he was also creatively involved in the episode to a certain degree.
So, as someone who is watching the entirety of DS9 for the first time… Spoilers? Lol. But actually, that made me appreciate the episode more.
I really like how this series evolves. The last three episodes were all really good. This DS9 homage felt great in a franchise which is very much TOS/TNG focused.
I did not quite get the “Thank you, Avery” in the end and had to check whether Brooks died? Is it because he retired?
I also wondered about the debate. As a German I know nothing about debate culture, and this episode did not help lol
I just think the show needs to be careful. I like that the stakes at the moment are low and personal, and there’s not galaxy threatening desaster (yet). I think the show would profit if they kept ist that way.
Everything else in this episode on what it means to be a Klingon was probably top 10 Trek for me.
I also thought of Amok Time! But why would they make that reference? And not do anything with it? Also agree on the Khionians, I didn’t understand why they are all in their human forms. I also thought it was weird that everybody was pretty cool with a random Klingon to attend this important wedding.
I think this episode would have profited from being split in two. I know the 10 episode format only allows for so much episodes, but this one was a huge miss to me.
