Scorching hot take: I thought the first book was a terrible fanfic of the fellowship of the ring and was embarrassingly bad.

Then some friends told me that was the BEST book in the series until Sanderson took over 😬

Just finished:

• How to Be Both by Ali Smith. Interesting concept (two stories, read them in any order, each story recontextualizes the other) that I think I’ll need to read again in the other order.
• Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico. Great satire, really enjoyed it

Haven’t picked my next one yet, but probably from this list:

• Spread Me by Sarah Gailey. Looks like a fun take on The Thing
• Sunward by William Alexander. Don’t know much about it, other than it was well reviewed
• The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother) by Rabih Alameddine. Was well reviewed

Bin Laden was the head of a transitional group seeking to establish Islamist control. While Al Qaeda did not have official recognition as a sovereign state, they were a well known and established organization.

The US and NATO were heavily involved in the regime change in Libya. US strikes disabled the convoy Qaddafi was in that immediately led to his capture.

1. Touch zone on the back arrow of the media viewer is too small and I have to get out my electron microscope every time I want to go back to list view
2. Media viewer doesn’t support touch functions like double tap to zoom
3. i want to mark as read on scroll in the c/all view (or really any community list view
4. When writing comments, there are some inconsistencies in capitalization of the first word (see the I in #3 that wasn’t capitalized)
5. Just noticed a bug when creating list items. Create an item, hit the carriage return to create a new item. Tap delete. The list number is removed but the cursor is in a sub item of the previous list item. Tap delete again. The first list element is deleted and your text is moved out of the list

These are rather nitpicky items. I use Blorp every day and like it more than Voyager, Arctic and Mlem

Just finished my reread of Mistborn Era 2 yesterday! As I was wrapping book 3, I was confused how Sanderson was going to pull in all the things I remembered from my last read… then I remembered there’s a fourth book 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well to be fair, SCOTUS hasn’t ruled on the merits yet. This decision just upholds the lower court’s TRO.

If the court grants cert for the actual case, we’d see some kind of precedent established. It’s very unlikely they’d rule narrowly and limit the scope to a single deployment since the administration’s argument is consistent across all of them.

This ruling upholds the Circuit Court order barring the use of national guard forces specifically in Chicago.

A separate order was issued in the ninth circuit barring the use of national guard forces in Portland. That has been appealed and was waiting for this decision.

It’s unlikely the administration will prevail in lifting the order in Portland now that this decision was made against their favor.

The show ran into issues with distribution rights. SyFy didn’t want to keep funding it because the views were from next day streaming rather than live broadcast. SyFy made less (or nothing?) from the streams.

Amazon bought the rights and funded the final season, but didn’t continue the because the viewership wasn’t huge and they were funding Rings of Power instead.

A linear story is split in two parts.

The black and white sections explain Leonard’s backstory and show that he’s willing to lie to himself to be happy just like his wife was willing to lie to him because she was unhappy.

The color section is revealing the consequences of Teddy using Leonard, but also Leonard’s willingness to lie to himself.

The special edition DVD had it recut in a linear fashion. It works both ways… linear is a standard detective story without much depth. Recut, it’s a compelling story about Truth and consequences
