That’s not an unbelievable number at all. Russia has a massive population and if you look at the numbers these are peace time numbers for most countries. For example, Finland’s army turns from 25-30k during peace to 900k during the war through our large reserves.

Great experience, Voyager is a great app and Lemmy feels kinda like Reddit in the good old days. Still have to check Reddit threads every now and then through search results while looking for info, though. Hopefully we can get more content going, but I guess that’s up to us users :)

Gotten rid of nearly every US digital service I have. Physical stuff I will still probably roll with my Apple devices until they wear out since they’re relatively new, but almost all the data and apps are basically European and/or open source services. Work related stuff remains the challenge. Next phone will be HMD.

Have already replaced basically all US software products for personal use. Unfortunately work related stuff can’t be boycotted yet, but hopefully we can see an improvement there too ASAP. Hardware still from Apple, but will once it becomes time to replace it I will definitely switch to a HMD phone.

Already done most of those, whatsapp is the hardest to replace for me from this category.

I’m using proton myself and have still continued to do so after these news. I kinda disagree that the founder is necessarily in any way maga or even a republican support just because he expressed praise for republicans on one particular issue. I think that’s taking it a bit too far, unless I’ve missed something where he clearly endorses Trump or his views more broadly.

I’ve been using it for a while now, works perfectly for my use cases. Using Le Chat for the occasional AI use cases as well, works great.

Feels almost unbelievable to hear that there still are people and companies standing up for their values and principles even in the face of losing profits or comfort. I thought that true western values had finally died and we were collapsing but this give a tiny sliver of hope at least.

Another vote here for HMD. I’m a Finn so totally biased but I recommend checking them out.

Great to see the Europe and Canada really stepping up now with the Ukraine support. There was decent support before but it’s being taken to a whole new level and I think Canada and Europe could work on many partnerships going forward.

Thanks, great reply! Strong argument overall, maybe the only major disagreement here is with nuclear energy. Here in Finland electricity is some of the cheapest in Europe and while it’s not entirely due to nuclear that is a key factor for us in self-reliance and energy security especially when you’re going down the renewable road, because you do need some kind of a stable backbone for days where solar and wind just don’t produce enough, at least until there are better storage options. There’s a huge need to optimize the energy mix with renewables because it’s unsustainable to have these massive price fluctuations currently and I don’t see many solutions currently that have more potential than Nuclear, especially if we can make SMR’s a reality. I am of course aware also that Nuclear by itself definitely isn’t a cheap way to produce electricity, but I believe especially SMR’s and other advancements can do a lot there.

Thanks, that is a relief to hear, the Russia issue is the most pressing from a foreigners perspective like mine, but for you guys of course there are a lot of other things at stake too. Hope whoever’s in power keeps Germany as a European powerhouse and one of our most crucial allies!
