If you count all of us, that’s a lot of nuts to gargle!

Your dad sounds awesome.
I even saw a Silent Generation fellow at the one I went too! This 92 year old vet walking around with a sign lol. Not sure how to put it into words, but it was somehow comforting seeing both that guy and a bunch of kids playing just off to the side at the same protest.
Well, the good news is that when we get too loud to be ignored they have to report on it.
The bad news is that if you got your news primarily from these sources, these protests would seem apropos of nothing, since their reporting was shit beforehand. I’m not holding my breath for continuing coverage.
Predictable. When I told my Trump supporting mother I was going to a protest today, she had no idea what we could be protesting about. She went to the Hands Off! website and said they were just “inciting” a protest with their “rhetoric.” Fox News enjoyers thinks protest = riot, as a rule of thumb. So if it was just a bunch of overwhelmingly peaceful and nonviolent protests…Fox News has nothing to report on–they don’t want their viewers getting the impression that protesters are not the enemy. My bet is they will cherry pick the one or two occurrences of violence or vandalism as a way to paint the entire movement in a bad light in the coming days.
Bring water and know where the bathrooms are. Wear comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather.
Seems obvious, but if you are going to be standing around the same spot for a few hours this will help. Also it is easy to get bored out there (depending on what the organizers have prepared) so don’t forget to mingle with the other protesters. You meet lots of interesting people at these events and you’ll never run out of engaging conversations to have.
It is so deeply frustrating. This just tells me the Dems are continuing to learn the wrong lesson.
They’re asking “why didn’t anyone listen to us?” instead of “why didn’t enough people vote for us despite listening to us?”
I voted for Kamala, because obviously, but they are continuing to underestimate how much people hate, despise, the Democratic establishment. Delusional old fucks.
I think the sentiment expressed in the OP is exactly why he decided to do this now. It didn’t do anything material, not really no, but what it did do was skyrocket Booker’s name as a possible replacement for the widely hated Schumer. People are begging for someone to replace Schumer, this is Booker throwing his hat into the ring.
Whether or not the Dems will learn the right lesson from all this remains to be seen…but given their track record, I hope you’d forgive me for being skeptical of that.
I’m so tired of people telling me I was overreacting or being alarmist when I said…
Now it’s: Detention centers and El Salvadoran prisons are just the start. They are testing the waters for something much, much worse. (Edit: And to be clear, I wasn’t the only person saying all these things. This isn’t some sort of humble brag. I just listened to the countless experts, historians, and others much smarter and more well informed than me.)
I feel like I got gaslit by the media and Republicans saying that everything was going to be ok. That it was business as usual despite the rhetoric and to hunker down for the eventual pendulum swing back to the left. “Maybe I am overreacting, there’s too many good people, systems, and checks that would stop the worst aspects from happening, surely…”
The best time to act was 4 (or even 8) years ago. The second best time is NOW. “It could never happen here” is so damn entrenched in the subconscious of our society people refuse to see the evidence in front of their eyes.
You sound like an awesome parent.
I’m gonna urge you to reconsider. I think bringing them along to DC is a really bad idea. I’m not so much worried about the protesters, but rather what Trump et al will do. There’s real fear about how far they will be willing to go (consider what Trump was willing to do just for a photo op in his first term).
I know you mentioned that you would get out of dodge quick if things turned south, but you won’t be the only one with this instinct. The crowd will likely be massive enough to the point that little ol’ DC’s transportation infrastructure won’t be able to handle a sudden mass exodus (Edit: Depending on the time of day I suppose. I understand that DC has a large commuter pop). To the point that just trying to leave could become dangerous (for reasons like crowd crush, auto accidents, that kind of thing). Granted, that’s basically the worst case scenario and under the assumption that there will be at least somewhere on the order of thousands of protesters (it might be much smaller, who can say at this point).
I really respect wanting to raise them to be politically conscious, but perhaps doing it from afar would be a better idea this time around.
His job is to keep the left pro-genocide?
Lord, I hate establishment Dems.
That’s hilarious. Love the picture of a customer service rep in a mask lol.
Love this idea. Catbox seems to fit perfectly.
It’s so encouraging see all this support from our allies! I’m so sorry things have gotten so bad globally on our account. We’re doing our best to fix things as quickly as possible!
