Unfortunately, I personally believe that religion is a symptom of this type of mentality, not the cause. There is no cure, but teaching basic reasoning skills certainly helps. And that is why conservatives are targeting the education system.

Success in life means you have God’s (AKA karma/the universe/ect) approval. Becoming the president of the US is the ultimate sign of success and therefore also the ultimate sign of God’s approval.

Having someone who openly and brazenly hates the same stuff you do get elected president is more than just a sign of approval, it is like a high five from Jesus and all the angels. That means that everything awful that Trump has done or is doing doesn’t turn them off of him, instead it’s just the opposite. His hate filled statements, his ties to Epstein, his obvious desire to fuck his own daughter… he is open and blatant about them, but he is still “winning”. And therefore, all of the awful shit he does, and has done, is something that his followers can attain for themselves.

If the question was about how sustainable it is, then you should know that only Japan and Italy have worse debt to GDP ratios than the US. That means that whatever the ratio is for his country, it’s more sustainable than what the US is currently doing.

I understand your hesitance. I’ve felt the same over and over again for about the last 10 years. It is almost like someone released a brain worm in the water supply of a GOP convention about 10 years ago. We have reached a point where insane shit is not an outlier event, but instead the standard operating procedure of the GOP.

I find sometimes that repeating something they said and then asking a pointed question will derail the repetitive brain loop they are stuck in. I think a lot of people have gotten so used to being ignored, dismissed,or have just failed at communicating something they want to say so often that they have fallen into a “rinse and repeat” pattern for everything in their lives. They need their own words sent back to them to indicate that you have heard their words. And then asking a relevant question indicates that you are actually thinking about what they have said.
