  • It is a pejorative

No, it isn’t, just like TERF isn’t or like pointing out someone is white or male isn’t, they are all simple statements of fact, that those they apply to don’t like because, being used to always being the “default” that doesn’t need categorising, it gives them the tiniest of glimpses of being part of an out group, without all of the oppression people like them actually enforce on members of the groups they marginalise.

Don’t play in to the hands of the victimhood seeking bootlicker. This person is not being attacked or bullied or harmed in any way, they are literally just facing the consequences of their actions and words.

    As they fucking should.

  • They’re also literally defending cops, probably the most well known group of domestic abusers out there. It really isn’t a big leap to make that if someone gets defensive over abusers (or racists), it’s because they’re actually getting defensive about their own behaviour.

E: also, the fact that the mods had removed your comment, but none of the racist bootlicker’s, tells you everything you need to know about who they prioritise in this space - when “don’t be a dick” becomes “don’t be a dick to fascists”, you’re actively platforming fascists.

  • My point exactly (I actually wrote a clarification that pointed out some of the ways in which the right has and currently co opts leftist ideas and language to gain power, including the father of fascism himself Mussolini, but I ended up rambling so I deleted it all and left it as is lol)

There is no compromise between two inherently incompatible views of the world, the one that wants to grow and expand and hoard power and resources at any cost simply won’t allow for any real equity or justice (E: or competition!) to exist, it depends on inequality, exploitation, division, and oppression to function, and will consume and destroy anything that gets in its way. It’s why capitalism cannot be reformed, it must be abolished.

    Or TL;DR:

don't be the asshole in the middle

  • Oof, that’s horrible but sadly not surprising.

And yeah, I think being exposed to lots of different people and situations from a young age, as well as being on the margins yourself, helps in opening one’s world view up, but not always, there are unfortunately so many examples of people who either witness or are even directly impacted by bigotry, who go the other way and almost barricade themselves in it because acceptance is easier for them than fighting. It goes to show how pervasive it all is.

As for psychedelics, they’re just not for me (I’m autistic, and other than weed I’m not comfortable with any other drugs, even alcohol and caffeine), but I can absolutely see how they can help some people with opening their mind, and think it would be great if they were more available in a therapeutic and supervised setting exactly for things like this (and working through trauma and other issues) but it’s also important to remember that things like ant-racism are a constant things we have to continue to do every day, not something we unlearn once and are “fixed”.

  • I’ve heard that, and it’s similar here in the UK - the “polite” racism that is so deeply ingrained in the culture that pointing it out is what’s seen as outrageous, not the racism. I’d say a parallel to your mask could easily be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golliwog which were still used in advertising in to the 21st century, though thankfully have lost popularity and acceptance (though still cherished and displayed by racists). It really is so deeply upsetting how we so casually get socialised from birth to have certain views of the world that we have to work for the rest of our lives to unlearn.
