Fuck, we’re even more doomed than I thought possible… Best I can offer is Ph.D level stupidity

Technology@lemmy.world•Freeing a Xiaomi Humidifier from the CloudEnglish
5·5 days agoWell, my vacuum robot is integrated into home assistant, but I use valetudo so it’s only connected to local WiFi. Air quality graphs I also have but also connected via zinger so I don’t broadcast my data and don’t have any holes in my system that I’m not responyfor and can’t patch.

Technology@lemmy.world•Freeing a Xiaomi Humidifier from the CloudEnglish
20·5 days agoI mean that’s a really cool hack, but why in the world would a humidifier need a cloud connection?!?
Thanks for the nostalgia hit, I never used the 8” ones, but 5.25” was my childhood using the C64. I used to pirate so much using those bad boys :) Sadly, my best friend at the time only had a cassette drive and loading stuff would take ages so we mostly played at my place.
This is how it would sound :) almost as iconic as the dial-up sound for me.

2·6 days agoI’ll have to Check out some teviews. I used to have the Bose quiet comfort at work and i bought a pair for myself after leaving. The noise cancellation and mic sound quality are pretty good. Would be interested how these stack up.

Linux@programming.dev•Damaged Pocket Computer Becomes Portable Linux Machine
1·15 days agoI always wanted a Nokia communicator 9110 now that was a sexy device. I don’t like Chrome accents on devices, so that’s why I wouldn’t want that.

Oh mine totally would. They’d try to get me behind bars for opening their can 5 minutes too late.

Hakuna matata :) no need to get riled up. Use what you want, I use Linux and macOS at home and windows at work.
Fair point! In the end, everyone needs to use what works best for them. I do concede that I’m not really familiar with accessibility issues and I perceive the accessibility options to be lacking in the distros I know. Maybe it will change in the future and I hope it does :) thank you for your contribution!
Oh, I get that, it was more of a retro rival question because I read all those headlines about the shit Microsoft constantly tries to pull. I get comfortable and I’m sure there are some problems and growing pains but if you’re ready to get out of the comfort zone I think it is worth it.
I had the opposite issue where canon decided to stop supporting a scanner with incompatible drivers for windows 10. Linux and macOS were able to use it OOTB without me having to tinker with it. Swings and roundabouts I guess.
I’m not a lemming and am not shoving anything down anyone’s throat, but I guess people are apparently really triggered when someone merely brings it up.
