1. Not really, IME the vast majority of Conservatives I know genuinely believe their beliefs are held by most people. They often refer to it as the “Silent Majority”. They tend not to associate with people that hold beliefs different to their own (to be fair so do most people, I know I do)

2. So what? lets say its common knowledge, analyzing it this way is still valuable to verify that the “well known” information is actually accurate and not just collective assumption.
