I don’t think I was thinking much at all. Just kind of imagining the weathered waitresses I’ve seen a hundred times in highway waffle houses. The kind who smell like cigarettes and call you “darling.”

Wow, what a great compliment. I was actually giggling while I was sketching her, so I appreciate that someone noticed the detail.
Cheers.
Hey Baron,
Thanks for getting in touch.
No, it’s not based on a particular team. It’s from a strip that I draw that revolves around a fictitious pro rugby club in the US, so it’s very loosely based on MLR, but honestly, that’s just a backstory to work in a few interests of mine (most notably sports and the legal profession). The strip is team-related much of the time, but routinely veers into the private lives of the coaches, the owner, the players and a variety of peripheral characters. But again, all of it is centered on the club and the main characters connected to it.
Don’t want to bore you with the details, so I’ll leave it at that, but if you’re at all interested, here are a couple of links to the mothership that explain the backstory of the strip and a bit about the main characters.

As a quick addendum, this strip has started and stopped so many times I can’t count. I’ve just picked it back up after a layoff and I plan some pretty significant changes, but the heart of the story and all of the characters will remain intact, so there’s enough on the site that you can get a pretty good idea of what the strip is all about.
By the way, I dig what you’re doing here on Lemmy. Rugby in North America - and especially pro rugby - can use all the promotion it can get.
Right. It’s not an animal or a plant, but “plant-and-fungi-based diet” doesn’t have much of a ring to it.

Thanks again to everyone on this thread for their kind comments about the artwork. Nothing more gratifying than to have your work appreciated.
