Can it be scaled up or down in size easily? Like can Palantir make very small versions to crawl into our ears and explode or some other comically bond-villian type or thing they love to do? 😂

Climate@slrpnk.net•Asia’s Industrial Revolution Is Switching Off Gas1·5 days agoI am hoping that hydrogen can fill that gap. There is a lot wrong with it, but it can burn like gas and Europe has been building a bunch of infrastructure for it. I don’t think it is suitable for consumers like they tried to push with hydrogen car ideas, but it seems like it would have its place with large electrolysis solar stations on industrial rooftops and compressors inside.

Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•My name is yankee_self_loader, and I'm a suspenders guy
1·6 days agoI got suspenders (because the store was literally out of belts) for my work pants that use the worst claw clamp mechanism I have ever seen.
There is like a 5mm gap between the teeth so I have to fold my work pants belt line double and still if it experiences more than 0.1N of force, it will just fly off. I finally got a cheap 2nd hand belt.

zerowaste@slrpnk.net•How can I not waste an Alexa without feeding Amazon?
7·6 days agoYou could replace the microcontroller with an ESP32S3 and use the speaker and microphone with Home Assistant/Music Assistant or Willow voice assistant to essentially replace a lot of the real-use functionality: lights, music, and timers that Amazon said itself was almost all of its use according to their data harvesting 😂.
It depends how DIY/electronics savvy you are or if you are looking for a project.

Linux@programming.dev•What Are Btrfs Subvolumes? And Why They’re Better Than Traditional Linux Partitions
41·6 days agoI always do LVM now. Virtual partitions are the way to go, personally.
The amount of times that the root partitions have been 20-25GB but have still gotten completely full such that updates break… Well I could count it on one hand but still difficult enough that I would rather just use virtual partitions, especially on a server.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Moving existing prefex from Lutris to HeroicEnglish
15·7 days agoI did this a few years ago.
Maybe the best option is to create an entirely new prefix in Heroic and install battle.net via their “run installer first” button. Via Winetricks GUI you can install the 2 fonts or whatever that the lutris script installs.
Then, copy the game files of StarCraft 2 or WoW or whatever to the new prefix program files.
Then, in battle.net, it will either auto-detect the game, or you can go through the “search for games” flow in settings.
That should work, it is always better to have a fresh prefix as it takes almost no space. Once everything is copied you can simply delete the old one.

Buy European@feddit.uk•Fluxer is now available on FlathubEnglish
4·7 days agoIf I remember right, this has been quietly in the works for years. It aims to be a 1-1 discord replacement.
Screen sharing/streaming, group video channels, voice channels are a priority, some of which completely do not work at all or very limited in stoat (the last I heard about it). I think that is the difference.
A different focus than matrix or stoat which seem more about being a slack alternative first and then voice/video were thrown in later with YMMV results.

2·9 days agoI am interested what this is used for in practice.
For me, the biggest distraction is browsing itself. If I am trying to work on one of my many projects, I get distracted by cool YouTube videos or diving too deep into MCU features, or the “best” way to accomplish a task.
This seems like a similar feature as putting the browser in full screen mode, or am I missing something?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people hate AI so much?
7·11 days agoWe did exactly the opposite of what you say, we monitized the scams and turned to entire internet into an scam-ad infested wasteland of the greed of 10 people at the cost of driving the rest of humanity to mindless addictions, grooming, and manipulating human psyche to eek out more money and mass-propagandize.
The majority of the internet is 10x worse than it was 20 or 30 years ago and there are literally more bots than people, according to research.

If you can reconfigure a physical switch, that it by definition is not a kill switch for those functions. It is literally the same as turning them off in software.

solarpunk memes@slrpnk.net•using decomissioned hardware for hydroculture is solarpunk af
11·13 days agoHell, I was decent at spotting AI gen content 1-2 years ago, but nowadays I get constantly fooled if I am just casually browsing. (Except electronics BS ai-gen tutorial websites that are generated for nearly every subset and are always the same garbage look and pop ups)
AI is dangerous. Curious that it is being pushed so hard by the Epstein class billionaires right when they are being exposed.

9·17 days agoI’ve already replaced lutris with Heroic launcher + proton and wine-ge a year ago.
Lutris install script already didn’t work >50% of the time for me and battle.net always completely corrupts and messes up after a time on lutris and I have to reinstall it every few months, but has been going a year strong on heroic.
You can also always look at the lutris install scripts and install those components in heroic via winetricks. They were made by the community anyway.

5·17 days agoIt often doesn’t really. It misses a ton and fills in the gaps itself. It is aimilar with multitasking in that it is really just fast task switching and filling the gaps.
I maan, there are dedinitely people that specifically train to speed read or listen, but i would be interested to have people speed read/listen short novels or so and check for comprehension after the fact.
What kind of alternative are you searching for? What feature set do you want?
There are a few things like Bottles, Heroic, gamehub, playonlinux, etc…
You’re right, we don’t live in a utopia, so do you actually think the governments (since all governments seem to be doing some form of this) will not simply allow bots (bots are from companies, and neo-liberal governments will twist themselves into an inter dimensional pretzel if it pleases megacorps), foreign intervention (having a valid foreign ID doesn’t atop people from astroturfing), etc?
They have more than a dozen ways to combat misinformation already and they actively choose not to use any of them at all because it meets their goals.
Do you think normal people will be able to access the IDs of anyone to see if they are astroturfing and spreading misinformation? Literally a 0.001% chance of that happening.
Literally the only thing that will happen is that normal people get tracked to hell and back and when the authoritarians manufacture enough consent to take power, it will immediately be used to dispose of their dissidents. Only bad comes from this because the democratic or socialist cleaning governments don’t have the spine to actually use it against the billionaire class.

Also I can finally get rid of my 3 point lighting macros.
I can’t wait for it to hit the main flatpak repo.
