  • I’m autistic, I think its likely true for most people (including autistic people) that they could feasibly learn to become very good at one specific thing given sufficient practice, regardless of their starting point. BUT:

Its not capability in the strictest sense that is the privilege. Its money, time, and having intrinsic pleasure from the activity.

Someone who hates playing the piano could still 100% reach the same abilities of someone who loves playing the piano. They just don’t because they don’t get any intrinsic enjoyment out of it. So the person who is wired to get intrinsic joy out of the activity also gains the extrinsic benefits of eventually becoming very good at piano and the benefits that come with that.

Not everyone gets intrinsic joy from activities that have extrinsic rewards once you get very good at them. I really enjoy video games and debate, and I’d say I’m very good at both. But almost no one gives a fuck and my extrinsic reward for being good at those things is basically nothing.

IDK about other neurological frameworks however.

  • Treating everyone you disagree with like they’re stupid is coping emotionally. Instead of taking the time to, idk discuss things with people they’ve written them off as dumb before they ever speak to them.

You don’t know fuck all how much I’ve done precisely that. I obsessively debated various political and economic ideologies for like a straight decade of my life in invite-only forums specifically designed for such debate. I changed my own mind over time, and changed other people’s minds. I’ve done it.

But I promise you, the people supporting these ideas proposed by the Trump administration are not just stupid, but WILLINGLY IGNORANT for their own selfish purposes. The amount coursing hatred I feel for them burns like the accretion disc of a quasar.

They are not people I would bother to debate. They are quite literally just my enemy. Mortal enemies. I don’t want middle ground with them. I want something else.

  • But I will say that this model of yours that says people do these things because they are stupid or “dumb” might help you cope emotionally, but it prevents you from reaching any genuine insight.

I’m not the person you were responding to but I just wanted to make perfectly clear that you are 100% full of shit.

It doesn’t give anyone ANY measure of “cope” that so many people are fucking stupid. Its terrifying, despairing, and awful. I would rather delusionally believe I could convince them of rational stances, now that would be cope.

  • The boycotts themselves aren’t illegal. Its primarily that the government has made sustaining a boycott against Israel harder by pressuring non-profit organizations that could potentially aid or support a boycott by threatening their federal funding.

Its still absurd and disgusting. It might also still be unconstitutional and at the very least is clearly against the spirit of the 1st amendment.

It’ll make them better adjusted. Playing music specifically for children shelters them and is going to make them alienated from their average peer.

You just also have to teach them that in school (and later professional/work contexts) they keep their words clean for the puritans that walk amongst them.
