  • Didn’t take it that way at all! I appreciate you sharing it as I always enjoyed that subreddit. My first foray into the whole federated system of things, so it is a bit of a learning curve. Always happy for someone to share their experience to help develop my understanding and better utilize these platforms. I have used the browse feddit once before but agree it felt a bit finicky. Would be happy to try the other you’re talking of, so when you do find it please share!

  • I agree with the screen and sleep hygiene concerns. I do use it mostly on the nights the mind is racing with worries or stressors and I can’t fall asleep. When I do turn it on, I turn the screen over so I can’t see it and just hear the audio. Still may not be the best for sleep hygiene, but for me it is almost like a bedtime story for adults.

  • I tried searching for a community when I first joined lemmy, admittedly that was only a couple days ago. However, I couldn’t find one. I think I struggle the most with this part of lemmy. The finding of communities feels a bit cumbersome to me and could be an area to improve upon. Don’t get me wrong, never going back to the sinking ship of Reddit. Thank you for sharing the link!

  • I have watched this show so many times. I could just close my eyes with the audio in the background narrating the scenes as I replay them in my mind. It would put me right to sleep haha. Almost like someone reading me my favorite bedtime story as a kid. I think the subreddit had 20k+ members before Reddit died. So we are definitely not alone.

  • Was not around for the Digg exodus, but I’m hoping this will be the historic Reddit exodus. I had felt this would be coming, especially after hearing about the Reddit IPO. Unfortunately these things always turn products to shit. And here we are. Hoping we can all reclaim the internet. Feel I’m living the cyberpunk dystopian future when I jump online nowadays. Reddit was my last internet refuge. But I had to leave. I was a dedicated Apollo user and have to take a principled stand after what they did to Selig. Reddit account deleted and excited for what the future holds for Lemmy.

  • Thank you for your edit to your post. I agree, engagement is key. I never posted on read, just consumed. Your edit encouraged me to be different this time. I want lemmy to succeed and grow. Liking what I see so far!

I have been meaning to get into the expanse. I’ve heard such great things about the show, and the books were often recommended on the various books subreddits when searching for sci-fi books. Will have to start that series.

  • Hello all! Reddit user of ten years. Struggled during the blackout. Turns out I might have a problem, a Reddit addiction. Withdrawals weren’t too bad… who am I kidding, they were awful! Thrilled to find my fix here. Excited to join a developing platform to replace Reddit. I will confess I was mostly a lurker on Reddit. Tend to not engage much in social media, but I am going to try and be different on this platform. I would like to see this platform thrive and recognize engagement will be key. By the way, I downloaded the iOS lemmy app, Mlem through test flight. Like it so far, but can tell it is a work in progress. Excited to participate in its evolution.

A bit about myself, work in healthcare, just bought a new house. Have far too many pets in the house (all rescues). A progressive living in the more conservative parts of the Midwest. Isolating and scary at times, but will always hold true to my values.

I have deleted my Reddit account. RIP Reddit, welcome Lemmy!
