We also deal with NFL fans and r/NFL saying the Steelers are worse than their record every, single, painstaking year. All the while everyone parrots “Mike Tomlin no losing seasons, womp womp”.
Maybe a HOF coach can have the clutch gene too. Tomlin coaches his teams specifically to win dogfights that go down to the wire. They practice 2-minute drills and situations far more than the average team. But surprise surprise, them winning one score games is fraudulent (which a large majority of NFL games are one score margins, regardless of ANY circumstances).
This couldn’t be more categorically wrong.
The 11-0 team scored 24 or more points in 10 of the first 11 games. Matt Canada has done that 11 times in 56 games as OC.
The one consistency since 2014 is Mike Tomlin (and Chris Boswell shortly after). HOF coaching and a clutch kicker are why this team is always “worse than their record”. Like at some point you’d think people would stop saying, “The Steelers are so much worse than their record” when they have to do it every season for almost a decade.
This is where people keep saying “worst 6-3”, “worst 11-0”, “worst 9-8” really just means the coaching is substantially impacting outcomes.
Mike T drags that “high end talent” to wins in the ugliest way and he’ll beat your team to do it. The amount of times losing to the Steelers has sent other teams fan bases into a tailspin is poetic.
