  • I think there’s a difference between say a sequencer that has a machine learning model behind it, and a model that’s trained on stolen music that takes words as input and outputs slop.

If you look at Synthesizer V for example, the voice providers were compensated and aware of what they are signing up for. The providers in the past back when it was concatenative synthesis who didn’t feel comfortable with a machine learning library, haven’t gotten one (e.g. Cangqiong). It’s also a much smaller company operating on a different scale. You won’t find Kanru Hua or Dreamtonics lobbying the American government bribing the U.S. president so they can be above the law. Sure, nowadays I’m sure they rent a server farm for their training, but I recall Hua training the initial models on his PC in the late 201Xs.

I think for me personally that’s where the sweet spot is, machine learning used to be a helpful tool in a creative process. Whether it replicates a voice, or an instrument, or helps filter noise. It can be done in a manner that doesn’t involve theft or the ruination of communities.

You can just not and say you did. Then again Nazis get really angry about anything. Say you enjoy spicy food as a white person. Date a person of a different race. Kiss a person of a different gender. Be not-white. Be a woman. Fucking say that people that aren’t white men deserve equal rights.

You think vegans are more likely to be surprised that predators eat other animals? I don’t see the relationship there.

We have a really small wolf population here in Sweden, so small that we’ve had to fortify it on multiple occasions. Even so, you have these useless careless animal keepers that get really up in arms when a wolf (or a fox, even) goes and kills some of their animals, even though they often don’t even have proper fencing set up.

It’s ridiculous, because there are organisations that will help you fence your animals, there’s monetary aid to be had for it too. Not keeping your animals safe is a choice, and I don’t think it’s fair to put the blame on the wild animals.

Even so, there will be animals lost to predators, and that’s just part of the business. If you don’t want to lose animals, don’t get them.

  • When I read “injured hammerer” I initially read hammer, which made me think of an ARK Survival Evolved bug from years back. This was more unhinged though.

Regardless; vehicles, I believe, are basically just dinosaurs without a lot of the dinosaur-ish abilities, as far as the code is concerned. At least that used to be the case. When rafts were initially implemented, they’d forgotten to disable the hunger functionality on them, because over time your raft would starve to death.
