I think it’s horrible. And not just for race relations, but for worker’s rights, environmental protections, and sick and disabled people struggling to get by on a benefit… I suspect that the public health system and Pharmac are going to get absolutely fucked. And as someone who cares a lot about conservation and the environment, I’m worried that the few gains that have been made in those areas over the past few years are just going to be obliterated (and those gains were minimal too, compared to what we’re up against re. climate change, pollution, and people generally just not giving a fuck).

A whole lot of people voted for ‘change’ just for the sake of it. We’re going to get change all right, and we’ll probably be paying for it for decades. I’m feeling very doomy about it all, so maybe I’m only seeing the negative, but I really don’t like the look of things.

Yes!! The Dune movies are the only big movies I’ve been excited about in a loooong time. Between the crappy nostalgia remakes (which never live up to the originals) and the endless superhero franchise churn, the theatre experience has been quite dire for far too long.

I love that Villeneuve is bringing the craft of movie-making back to blockbuster movies, and doubly so that he’s done it with the Dune stories. And he’s done them justice so far, both the material and with the beauty of the cinematography.

I love that movie, it’s so beautifully shot.

Maybe subscribe to some media that’s more about longer-form journalism? So you can read stuff that’s informative and interesting, but doesn’t require the commitment of a longer book. And it has the bonus of supporting proper journalism, rather than click-bait rage news. I’m finding The New Yorker really good for this. I signed up for a trial before the Reddit thing blew up, but I think I’ll be keeping it long-term now.
