  • While a direct migration does not exist, since you have access to the data on both instances it would theoretically be possible to export/import the database tables from one to the other. That will require digging and knowledge on your end to figure out which data needs to move over.

Another option would be to duplicate the database from the first instance and connect to that front the second instance. From there make the changes to the second instance by hand.

Just make sure before you go mucking about with and database imports you have a good solid backup in case things go south.

Note: The above is theoretical as I have not setup am instance of Lemmy of my own. Just typical of how a database works.

  • Wholeheartedly agree. I believe 100% they are over priced. I knew it was over priced when I bought it for the wife’s bike. Then again, I tend to believe just about ever accessory that says “for motorcycle” is over priced. And yet we pay those prices to keep our knees in the breeze, and that shit eatin grin on our faces.

  • I too looked into Open Garage, and Open Sprinkler. In the end I happily settled on Tailwind, and Rachio. While I would like to avoid more cloud enabled stuff, quality of life told me with a few of my smart home items, it was better to just spend the money on a complete system that works. I’ve invested in both, and honestly they both just work.

If you have the Tailwind app loaded on your smart phone you will also get push notifications when the door(s) are opened/closed.

  • User of the Tailwind system for going on 2 years now. The ONLY issues I have ever had are the same issues you might have with any cloud based API. If their servers have an issue, you have an issue. That said, in 2 years of use I have had exactly 1 time I was not able to use the Tailwind system because of a server issue on the Tailwind side of things. The outtage lasted a short time before it was resolved.

I actually only purchased the Tailwind system because I ride a motorcycle. Their system allows for auto open/close based on near proximity to the house. When my phone is connected to my helmet headset and I pull away from my house the door closes when I hit a point 700 feet away (distance is customizable). Opposite happens when I come home. In 2 years of riding I have had the system I have not had it fail me. If your car/truck/van/SUV is equipped with a Bluetooth headunit it would provide the same functionality.

The HACS integration is VERY stable. You can see the door status at a glance.

Personally I would not hesitate to purchase their system again.

All that said a less expensive option does exist. Open Garage Though I not and have not used their system so cannot speak to it’s stability or functionality.

  • Not going to link a specific site, that way you can choose where to purchase from. But here is a search result for the product the above poster is referring to.

    Cramp Buster

I don’t currently use one myself as my current bike has cruise control. I will say I have used these in the past on my previous 3 bikes that did not have cruise. Yes an absolute game changer for long rides.

IF you have a decent amount of extra cash burning a hole in your pocket the Atlas Throttle Lock is on a whole other level of amazing.

Upgraded my wife from the Cramp Buster to the Atlas. She will not be going back.

  • Could not have said it better!

I am not sure what the general expectation was from the mass influx of people coming from Reddit, I can say it saddens me to see the daily barrage of complaints. Lately it is not even constructive criticism, it’s just all out bitching about this or that…

Lemmy is ALPHA software, and suffering from a HUGE influx of new users. There are and will be growing pains.

Jerboa is ALPHA software, and suffering from a HUGE influx of new users. There are and will be growing pains.

Either get involved with development, move on to something else, or deal with it. Posting a daily rant (most of which have already been stated, and addressed or will be) is helping absolutely no one.
