Although several options were presented to Pac-12 presidents and chancellors, the primarily subscription-based Apple streaming deal emerged as the likely leader when commissioner George Kliavkoff presented it to the group Tuesday.
I do believe that streaming is going to eventually be the answer for everyone. It won’t be long and ESPN will be streaming their main channels to people for a few…without cable. And I’m looking forward to that.
But right now, while in an arms race, that is not what the PAC 12 wants to hear.
If it had been the promised “more than the Big XII but mostly streaming” then I think there’d be a lot less drama in the PAC today. The totals are just going to make the streaming and escalators a hard pill to swallow. I know Yormark wanted decisions by today, and while there was certainly an element of bluster there, I do think it had the intended effect of pushing Kliavkoff to show his work to-date.
