Howdy all. I am a big Mastodon fan and have been trying to get my head around kbin/lemmy for the last couple of days. Decided to do some random interoperability cross-testing from around the Fediverse.
This is in no way definitive, this is mostly just me f’ing around, and I suspect some of this is federation lag too as they all have to populate one another. Servers used were retro.pizza (mastodon), fedia.io (kbin), and infosec.pub (lemmy):
From Mastodon -
- Can see kbin users and their post counts (but not their posts)
- Can see Lemmy users and some of their posts (but not any context, and also not reliably seeing their post counts)
From kbin -
- Can search for and see Mastodon users
- Can’t search for Lemmy users
- Can search for Lemmy posts/threads (and can see users through posts/threads/magazines/whatever they’re calling it) and fully interact with them
From Lemmy -
- Can search Mastodon users
- Can search kbin users (and see any comments they made, but only on Lemmy posts)
- Can search for kbin posts/threads but results are very hit and miss, cannot interact with them
Does this sound right to you? Do you have any tricks/tips for getting all these doodads and whatchamacallits to talk to one another better?
You are 100% correct, I totally missed the “People” tab at the top when I was trying to find Mastodon users earlier. I have edited my post to reflect this change
You can see a kbin users posts (microblog) from mastodon, but not threads or replies.
Threads and replies work too, but it seems a bit random. I can’t see my earlier reply, but I can see other replies I’ve made elsewhere. I don’t appear to be able to see any microblogs I’ve posted either. This could just be down to federation being bogged down with so many posts.
Federation being half working does make it hard to tell what is intended and what is just broken. As far as I can tell most federation for fedia stopped about 4 hours ago.
