Wollemi pines — thought to have gone extinct 2 million years ago — were rediscovered in 1994. Scientists are now hoping to reintroduce the species in the wild in a conservation effort that could take centuries.
Very cool. Had no idea they are so slow growing, that’s interesting, though I’m guessing that might depend on the environment. There are a few I’ve seen in my area and they are a little too tall to have grown that slowly since the species was discovered.
