The five malicious apps are:
- Phone Cleaner - File Explorer (com.volabs.androidcleaner)
- PDF Viewer - File Explorer (com.xolab.fileexplorer)
- PDF Reader - Viewer & Editor (com.jumbodub.fileexplorerpdfviewer)
- Phone Cleaner: File Explorer (com.appiclouds.phonecleaner)
- PDF Reader: File Manager (com.tragisoap.fileandpdfmanager)
Google won’t put those things in AOSP because they lose the opportunity to promote their own apps with trackers.
I’m sure there are other examples, but Android is definitely the first instance I encountered of big corps trying to use “open source” as a benefit only to poison pill their offering into a nearly useless corner. One of the many examples of Google torching their positive reputation over the years.
How Meta said Threads was going to support ActivityPub?
Or Oracle buying Java just to sue companies like Google for using it maybe?
I’m sure Oracle has a ton of examples that I cannot remember at the moment.
