So… So how…
When two dwarfs love each other very much they will find a piece of earth together. It can be rock, dirt, mud, metal, or even gemstone. The two of them then shape a new baby dwarf out of the earthen materials. They both say a short blessing and imprint a portion of their personalities into the child.
That’s not too far from the Tolkien lore really
