“fuck u/spez” means absolutely nothing to anyone who isn’t familiar with Reddit, it’s just noise.
“FIRE STEVE HUFFMAN” is a clear, actionable statement that has a clear target and goal and actually has meaning to people who don’t know what Reddit is (like say, a potential shareholder or investor)
Idk where to put this since r/savethirdpartyapps got banned so post this wherever will get noise if you agree
Lmao you sweet summer child. You think firing him will do shit? The company has cancer. They are trying to go public. Nothing is going to fix whats wrong with the company now. It’s terminal.
This is how it goes.
Company makes good product.
Company goes public.
Company becomes shit.
Company dies.Rinse and repeat.
Yeah, it doesn’t matter if they hire another CEO or put another board in charge. The outcome will remain the same. They’re trying to IPO, get their cash, and then from then on, they’ll be bending over for investors.
Reddit as we knew it is long gone. Its time to move on.
You forgot the step where someone else takes dominant control of the space
See enshittification
Why there’s always the top comment in any kind of protest with a Sweet summer child already giving up at the start?
I heard this is a very American thing and I would suggest you guys to change that attitude and start fighting for your rights for once. If you keep all giving up your rights will be eaten by the corporations even further.
Lol yeah. Also just because I’d like a different platform to be dominant doesn’t mean I don’t need to use the current one sometimes
I agree, but more just trying to move the meaningless into something meaningful. Reddits gonna die most likely because capital is gonna capital. But at the very least this dickwad could go, he’s an asshole, and the company would be marginally better without him, and idk karma would be nice if it was possible no?
I agree that it would be nice if Huffman got the boot, but I think it wouldn’t be good to let the other managing scumbags say, “hey, big scumbag gone, no one here but us Good Guys™,” which might be what they’re already planning to do.
It isn’t meaningful. It’s just picking one fall guy for your ire, and not coincidentally it’s the only Reddit executive anyone knows. Just leave the site if you don’t like the direction the Board is taking the company. Otherwise you’re still driving their user engagement numbers.
I did lol, I’m posting on here aren’t I
I miss the times reddit was written in Haskell and open source
I prefer Join Lemmy.
It’s the only thing that will actually make a difference.
I don’t care if spez is fired or not. It doesn’t matter. He’s incompetent, but he’s just carrying out the wishes of the investors.
STOP trying to convince yourself that this is a saveable situation START getting on with life away from Reddit
The biggest thing to do, if you don’t want to delete your reddit account, is to log out (and remove the saved login in the browser).
You’ll be surprised how much your monkey brain resists logging back in once it is, well, “effort”.
Sorry but as someone who can no longer use Reddit I can’t say I “resist” wanting to use it back
Reddit is a hell of a drug
For me, I replaced the reddit (infinity) location on my phone with Lemmy. It’s worked well so far, I just end up opening Lemmy instead. Still haven’t found a great alternative to adding “site:reddit.com” to the end of some internet searches yet.
Give it time. As more people use lemmy and contribute more information and knowledge, it will eventually be good enough that you can search it for information and real answers. Hopefully.
Yes, I mean it’s pretty much a sunk cost fallacy at this point. Just cut your losses and move on (in this case, to Lemmy).
Exactly, I had a 15years old account. I came over here, as I saw that they were not gonna change their mind. The communities have grown a lot. Nopoint looking back.
It doesn’t really matter who corporate shill runs reddit, reddit is already over the edge that they only care about what is under the line. Fediverse is the future!
Yeah I think they’re already off the cliff arms flailing.

Ellen Pao was actually right though. The attacks on her came from the far right and redditors lapped that shit up because reddit was (and still is) a misogynistic shithole. Her biggest crime was… Closing /r/fatpeoplehate.
If she’d stayed on Reddit wouldn’t have helped qanon, wouldn’t have helped cause theredpill movement, wouldn’t have caused the_donald, wouldn’t have caused a shit load of bad things.
Comparing Huffman to her is absurd. Huffman is a far right prepper. She is as far as I can tell a pretty well-meaning liberal, as far as tech CEOs go anyway, which is unusual given that the vast majority of CEOs in tech them are far right crypto bro libertarian fuckheads.
Misogynistic shithole my ass. There’s some misogynists there, but my experience of Reddit was that it was progressive and feminist to an extent rivalling Tumblr.
Depends a lot on which subreddits you frequented. Some subreddits were alright, but many of the largest ones would frequently have uncontested ableism and transphobia.
Yeah, a good part of that was because I stayed out of the right-wing cesspits, while taking far too long to leave the left-wing ones, so most of the cess I got was left cess.
The only exception was PCM (joined when it was merely right-leaning and not particularly PC, rather than the outright hive of scum and villainy it became), and there, it was far from progressive.
What does misogyny have to do with disabled or trans people? Other than the fact that around 1/2 are women?
The comment above mentioned progressivism in general
my experience of Reddit was that it was progressive and feminist to an extent rivalling Tumblr
Since you’re asking, I find that blatant transphobia also tends to go hand in hand with some sort of sexism, but that’s an unrelated point.
Sorry, I skipped the progressivism part.
Honestly I think the best course of action is just to let them stew. We should be rallying for spez to make worse decisions and more often. Let nature take its course.

Reddit will never be super happy and wonderful again. People’s faith in the brand has been pretty much shattered at this point. I have no intention of going back there whatever they do at this point. I think a lot of people who have left feel that way.
I’m on Lemmy now. It’s way better. I’m over Reddit.
I think the only real strategy the new owners can follow at this point is to gradually turn it into an edgier version of Facebook and fill it full of people who’ve never actually used Reddit before and have no idea what it was like before Huffman ruined it.
I clicked into this thread hoping to see this take - thank you!
I said bye, now I say “Lemmy’s pretty cool”.
It has been about 20 days for me. But I hardly miss Reddit. While my niches aren’t niche enough here yet, I am actually having somewhat meaningful discussions.
Admittedly I just took a huge jump and changed so many platforms, devices and software this month that I might not even notice the intricacies.
It’s pretty rad, much happier here just miss my larger communities
We’ll get them back. Just be patient
“fuck u/spez” means absolutely nothing to anyone who isn’t familiar with Reddit, it’s just noise.
And "Fire Steve Huffman means absolutely nothing to anyone who doesn’t know reddit CEO’s name.
I’ll go for an easier one: Fuck reddit, join lemmy. Easy and clear, and I’m not sure reddit would get any better with its CEO fired, they’ll likely find someone similar.
how about we stop talking about reddit and enjoy lemmy instead?
I agree, but, you know… This community is called “Reddit”.
Yeah i was going to comment something about stop giving reddit clicks but then i saw the community
Agreed Reddit is dead to most here this is nonsense posting, kicking a dead horse
This definitely has a lot to improve, specially in the interface part
Still, it has a lot of potential
Does anybody know a good app for lemmy im using connect now but i hate it. it has no subscribed feature for all i know.
Connect lets you subscribe, but right now I am using a mix of Connect, Liftoff, and Jerboa. I think I like Jerboa best so far.
I second Jerboa.
I third Jerboa. Feels a lot like Boost, it’s comfy and familiar…
It does, you can subscribe to communities and go to front-page section to view posts from subbed communities. So far I prefer connect over the others, most reminiscent of relay and jerboa just kept crashing on me don’t know if they fixed it since.

Immutably based.

To illustrate how I view your point, I wrote this analogy:
You lobby the government to fund welfare programs for the poor.
I pray for the complete end of poverty.
(And personally do 1 and ½ hours of church charity work each month.)
(We invite troubled teens to church where we serve pizza, put on a movie, and give out free Bibles at the end.)
(I swear this method is going to work eventually. Our work is definitely going to lead to the end of poverty. Have faith.)We are not the same.
Reddit isn’t about to fucking die, no matter what you want. Just like poverty isn’t about to end, no matter how hard you pray.
You not using Reddit is insignificant in terms of trying to achieve that goal. The entirely of the Fediverse completely leaving Reddit is more significant, but still nowhere near enough.
We’re a minority that was willing to switch. Arguably we may be a significant minority with the ability to make this place a successful long-term alternative, but we’re not enough for our loss to be a killing blow, even with a doctrine of complete disengagement from Reddit where even criticism and calls for change are successfully discouraged.
You wanting the more crushing blow doesn’t make you a more effective part of the effort to direct the flow of fate’s river to favor us.
You wanting more of an impact doesn’t make more of an impact.
For some actual impact, lobbying for Steve “Spez” Huffman’s resignation by creating a hugely popular, highly visible and well-targeted backlash may be more effective than complete disengagement, where we would effectively be making ourselves neutral in this media conflict.
I’m not completely certain he can be made to really feel the consequences of his infamy, but I do trust my own judgment on this more than I trust yours. I don’t believe complete disengagement is useful right now at all. We have a torrent of angry crowds we could be riding.
just stop using reddit and move to alternative site like lemmy.
Did that. Still really want to see Steve Huffman fired. And hopefully humiliated and shunned.
^
If you look into the history of “fuck /u/Spez” this is the comment(s) that he edited way back when. It’s an eternal reminder of the bullshit that he’s pulled in the past. The Streisand Effect in all its glory.
If you’re going to say anything, help guide folks out of the dumpster fire. Direct some more content this way.
Who gives a fuck what happens to / what people think of Reddit’s CEO.
I swear some Lemmy users are worse than that overly attached gf meme.
Get off Reddit and stop talking about reddit.
Uhm, you see in what community you posted this ?
Reddit@lemmy.world
Reddit should die. And people should come here. I want more instances and communities developing here. Right now I have to hope between reddit and here for some communities. Steve Huffman can go and suck dick.
He does not deserve dick, he should suck a cactus!
But not one of those super spiky ones, but the ones that have tiny hairs that are impossible to get out of your skin when you accidentally touch the cactus and hurt everytime you bump them wrong.
I’d rather just say to migrate to Lemmy, there’s always going to be a Steve Huffman, but with Lemmy it’s either impossible or incredibly difficult.
