presenting my little self sown 10th generation patch of coriander:

Haven’t weeded it in years because it IS the weed.

    Edit: Image is of coriander

I think starting from seed is the secret. these have been accidentally selected over the years for slow bolting traits (just pulling out the ones that go to seed early).

They seem to enjoy being neglected heh.

Look at that fragrant little forest. Much better than parsley if ya ask me. Coriander hawt sauce incoming?

I haven’t been to my place in over a week, heading over later today - hoping my plants haven’t dried up too much

Finally home!!! God I missed fluffy butt. She was a little hesitant but that’s OK. It couldn’t have been easy to have a stranger in the house for a week.

Ew just got a thing for a 10 year high school reunion. Would it be rude to reply “hated you all then, would probably still hate you all now.”, or maybe I could ask if they’ll still bash me on sight for being bisexual and having a gay Mum.

The polite thing to do would say you won’t be coming and not elaborate further.

If you’re not ready or able to move on from the shitness of high school, you don’t have to go. I didn’t attend mine either. But the way you’ve framed it here says to me that you want conflict, you want to pick a fight with someone over something ten years old…and ultimately no one involved, including you, would get anything good or healthy out of picking that fight.

Changing my name meant nobody could find me for the 10 year. Unfortunately, someone figured it out before the 20th. Still a fuck no. What a special sort of Hell.

A quarter of an hour until the good local pizza shop opens. Chewing nails down to the elbow in anticipation. And they’re doing a two for $20 deal right now.

Plain Jane’s in Miller St. Not quite as cutting edge as it used to be, but does a solid quality trad pizza ideal for Sat night in front of the fire. The other much more upmarket pizza place in Miller St is more for large groups - they only do one size and are much more exxy and have fashionably minimal toppings. Both the fush & chup shops in Miller St are good too. The pub does a decent feed too as well as live music (various). Spoiled for choice really, but I am craving a nice capricciosa avec anchovies tonight.

When you say pub, do you mean the Merri? I haven’t been since it was vegan. What’s the food like these days (nb. I’m not vegan)? Is the music out the back still?

Music is still out the back. No, it’s no longer vegetarian - they have outsourced the food to another mob that actually does meat too. Tho vegetarian is still available and gluten free too. Quite a nice pub now. Saw a stretch limo arrive outside while I was waiting for my pizza, and disgorged a largish group who promptly went upstairs to the function room. Music tonight was vaguely blueish, with a harmonica that should have been confiscated at an early age. For not being up to at least Dan O’Connell standards.

I love this time of year when the garden just starts coming to life again. Enjoy some photos from my garden just now:

    spoiler

ID: photos of new green shoots on a maple tree, the first baby daffodil of the season, some white jonquils, white and orange poppies, and a bee munching getting drunk on poppy pollen

Eeeee so pretty and cheerful! (Also hi broccoli in the background!) Although it seems a bit early for bud burst… Hopefully the bebe leaves don’t get cold damaged from prematurely emerging.

I was feeling too flat the last few days but you’ve inspired me to get going with revitalising the veggie bed at the place I’m housesitting :) the weeds came out on Tuesday, today I’ll find the compost bag in their garage, dig it in and put in snow peas, scented peas, spring onion, garlic chives, and some radish and coriander. I should look into poppies and recommend they look at bulbs for seasonal delight.

Poppies are fantastic for planting along the edges of a veggie patch at this time of year. They like the cold, don’t take up much space and bees fucking love them. These guys opened up overnight and there are already a bunch of bees floating around them. Hopefully they can work their magic on the broadbeans which are still doing JACK SHIT.

Love it. I’m going to go look for some, the owners of this place love cheerful flowers but since having a baby haven’t had the time to do any of that.

Have patience with those broad beans… Like wait until October kind of patience… and then drown in bushels of the stuff.

bulbs are one of the best easiest things to grow in a garden, just make sure it’s right for the climate and they will be magic. From tiny muscari to giant ginger and elephant ears.

I just can’t seem to do much in the way of vegies, tho the chillies and lettuce was good last year.

I’ll try not to spam this, but please, DT, don’t sleep on tinned fish. It has a strange historical bad rap. But holy shit… As a recent convert… It’s insanely tasty and consistent and CHEAP. Sardines are literally a superfood you can get from Coles for next to nothing. Give them a fucking chance. Herring too. But the main point is to give tinned fish a chance - i truely believe that were currently in a time where it is undervalued, underpriced. Get ahead of the curve friends. I’ll share basic recipes if you like, but I pretty much just eat them with chopsticks over the sink

I have been a sardie and kipper convert for many years now. You are singing my song. Tuna can get in the bin.
One of these days (if you are very good) I shall confide at least some of the secrets of baccala. Which is fish bacon or as close as anything can be to that. Your world will be changed. Not as cheap as sardies though.

Also I agree re: tuna. How is that the most popular tinned fish??? Is garbage. Sure it’s macronutrients are good… But the taste and texture is so lame comparatively

Candied salmon? An improvement on candied tuna, but not by much. Give me sardies or herring any day. I will accept tinned red salmon in a tray bake or as part of a starry gazey pie. In a salad? Maybe.

As much as I enjoy smoked mussels on bikkies or a bit of tinned salmon tossed through pasta, it’s not worth fighting the cat over them. He strongly believes that Food In Tins Is For Cats. Sometimes it turns out to be corn, or tomatoes, and he’s annoyed and disappointed, but sardines he will absolutely do battle for.

      An occasional work treat only.

I haven’t gotten to the ones I bought the other day. Just that I enjoyed the the herrings from Aldi a lot and they were cheap as well.

Yes I know you’re disappointed that I haven’t gotten to the kippers yet.

Finally took the plunge and made the decision to block an overbearing friend on social media (he was spamming me with memes, getting angry if I didn’t respond, declaring that he would leave me alone forever, then spamming me with memes the next day). I guess I felt a bit bad for him as I know he doesn’t have many friends, which is why I never cut him off completely…but he’s really worn that down (and I’m really worn down by this as well).

How old is he, 10? Good on you. I tell my teenager not to tolerate that shit from friends. I know people can have their own Stuff that makes them think this is an acceptable way to treat friends but it boils down to looking after yourself. I had a friend like this years ago who was exhausting and I was so glad when she dumped me in the friendship. Amazing how much my mood lifted after all contact stopped.

Alright, this is normally way, way more plastic than I would normally tolerate but I’ve been tired and trying to save money. So with a couple of good markdowns and a few 50% specials (get onto the Half Price app, people!), I’m pretty happy with…

    this haul for $37.82

Pile of groceries on kitchen counter - including several marked down veg, two boxes of frozen fish pieces, a bag of sour snakes, a packet of soy milk and a tray of vegan mince

    Receipt for proof

And here is dins made with the veg (except spinach) and the indulgent vegan mince (which took up 21% of that spend!!!) - a big mess of everything thrown together. Cost $7 without the mince, $15 with it

So things have calmed down today.

Health issues are still there though. I really need my tax return to come through. Wish they processed and refunded on a weekend.

My partner’s going to need some surgery sadly and we’re going to need to purchase something that prevents an artery transfer from being rejected.

Trying to sort out some stuff think I’ll sell some of my video games to try and make up the cost difference.
