Lemme get my small violin right quick.
There are valid points there, and so a concession should be made. I propose congressional dorms. I see no reason why they should have to maintain a full residence in DC.
I’d also prefer if they could vote remotely since I think it would cut back some of the clubhouse antics that go on as well.
You get: double your current salary
I get: legal reforms to prevent members of Congress using privileged information to trade stocks
Whoa whoa whoa slow down there cowboy. Really, do you think that is fair to hold our congressional representatives to the same ethical standard expected of the common ruffians?
Actually, they forgot to add regular drug testing as a requirement to collect their paycheck.
Maybe eat less avocado toast dickhead
It’s the Starbucks lattes too
If they did the same for their constituents I don’t think anyone would have a problem with this. They bring up a valid point of needing to maintain two residences, and one is certainly in an expensive area.
The infighting and inability to do much for the people they represent really do bring their value into question.
Exactly, why would anyone want to give more money to those who repeatedly work to deny it from the people they are supposed to represent?
from the people they are supposed to represent?
You mean the Corporate person “job creators” with superPACs?
I live less than an hour from DC on the MD side in a high COL area and I make it work on $100K less per year than that. Maybe you’ll have to commute to your job like everyone else.
There is something to be said about balancing the pay for people with high responsibility. If the pay isn’t good enough you make it unreasonable for honest people, and instead you attract people who don’t care about the pay because they intend to make a lot more money through corruption.
I don’t know how likely it is you ever end up with honest people in these positions. They actively pursue them and at some point have to really think, “my opinions are so much better than everyone else’s that I should be the authority telling them what they are, and are not, allowed to do.” It seems deranged to me.
It seems, more often than not, rich people never have enough.
