Hi,
waiting for my 4* 2.5g / 2* SFP+ unmanaged switch. But already needing more 10g ports and somehow would like to go above 4 2.5g Ports. Thinking about this:
- 4 SFP+ or more
- 6 or better 8+ 2.5g ports
- POE is not a requirement
- Managed is not a requirement but a welcome plus
- Low power consumption. Under 15W under bit of load would be nice
- Ideally under 300 Euro for managed and under 150 for unmanaged
I don’t think this exists yet. But maybe someone has a tip. Thinking the 2.5g is killing my requirement. Maybe I’ll buy a 8* SFP+ switch and add my 4* 2.5g switch via SFP to it for now … 🤔
I’d absolutely get a 6450-24 for my setup, but I really want to go for 2.5g for all wired machines here as I move quiet the data back and forth. Kinda defeats on getting adapters and new hardware for 2.5g cu. On the other side, I might ditch 2.5g and just go directly to 10g if 2.5 is still too expensive.
okay, hear me out… Mikrotik CRS310-8G+2S+ IN and a CRS305-1G-4S+IN or another 10gb switch for cheap… about 300-400eur, 8x2.5g, 4x SFP+, and 1Gb RJ45. should be around ~30w as long as you don’t use 10Gbase-T transceivers/L3 routing/etc
I’d do the UBIQUITI Aggregation switch. 8 10 gig sfp+ ports. You do need to go fiber though as you can only use 4 ports if you use copper due to heat. Forget 2.5, it’s a weird speed. Just do 10
Keep in mind, that I won’t only do my nas and maybe PC like that. Other PCs in the house should be added as well. CU cabling is easier to get through the house rather than fiber. Also I can’t shut the door anymore. With flat cables I still can do so. As mentioned on another comment: Drilling holes isn’t an option unfortunately :/
Fiber is super easy too. Fiber patch cables are extremely durable and don’t have glass in them. Very durable.
Cheap too!
