Hi. I’m wondering if there are any famous pc builders? Like maybe a YouTuber or something? I run a community center and would like to introduce PC building to the kids, but I personally know nothing about the subject. I would like to get someone in to host a workshop. If y’all have anyone in mind I can contact I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Robeytech on twitch does live builds and has VoDs of his streams. He also posts on YouTube.
Thank you so much! I will check him out!
I don’t usually discuss business on something like Reddit but since Lemmy feels more natural, I’m willing to say that I have a tech consulting business (Not in Alabama) but we work with clients all over. You could have a consulting session with me if that was helpful, we could discuss the state of Building PCs, current social media trends and hosts to become familiar with, and a general approach to teaching kids these skills (which I have done many times over the years). DM me if you are interested.
But for some free guidance, YouTube will be a wealth of knowledge. There are many great hosts and channels that you can learn a lot from.

Linus Tech Tips is excellent, but the content you’ll be looking for will be from a few years ago

Gamers Nexus is super informative but will have a learning curve to understanding all the points he is making

jay’s two cents used to be a wonderful channel but I haven’t seen much from him recently.
Thank you so much! I know YT is great, but trying to wade through all the noise for the good content is time consuming. So thank you for the suggestions, I will reach out if I require more assistance!

Where are you located?
The center is located in Alabama. And I should apologize, the wording of my post was dismal. I’m not expecting people to fly in, nor am I expecting anyone to do anything for free. I just need someone to talk or videos to watch to get a better understanding of the field in general so I even know where to start to bring a program like this to the community center.
I can’t think of any popular tech YouTube channels based in or near Alabama. As was mentioned above, a local community college CIS or CS department would probably be a great place to get some assistance, or at least put you in contact with more local resources.
The YouTube channels mentioned above by @DolphLundgren@lemmy.world are some of my favorites. Craft Computing and Level 1 Techs are two others.
I’m there are also many people here on Lemmy that would be willing to hop into a Discord call with you and discuss some of the basics.
Thank you! I will start with the videos and if I need any in depth answers I will reach back out here!
I tried reaching out to multiple universities with no luck. I may have contacted them too late in the school year though. Will give it another go when school resumes.
LinusTechTips is a very well known channel on YouTube focused on tech and PC building. While they may be harder to get in touch with I could totally see them wanting to help you out!
I build PCs for a living, I am willing to consult and teach everything I can or answer any questions over a discord call or something of that nature
Have you tried reaching out to student communities at local colleges / universities? There will be plenty of people well versed in building their own PC, and some may indeed be willing to help out.
I have, but it may have been too late in the year. No one has got back to me, it’s been 4mo. I’ll try again when school starts.
The videos I watched are out of date now RE specific tech, but Paul’s Hardware was a very useful reference when I built my first desktop in 2011. These days, Machines & More on YouTube would be a go-to (focused on small form-factor, but good emphasis on what’s useful and what’s marketing fluff)
There is Jason Langevin (JayzTwoCents on Instagram and YouTube), though I think he lives in California.
