So I‘m currently paying 4,99€ for Spotify (university discount). I got an offer to pay 5,99€ for Apple Music + Apple TV+, which is obviously a really good deal that I‘ll probably just take tomorrow. Basically 1€ for Apple TV+. Music is more important to me tho so I wanted to ask wether I would lose anything remarkable right now that Spotify has but Apple doesn‘t? Afaik Apple Music even has better audio quality. What are your experiences?

Spotify shuffle algorithm is hot garbage. It’s like it shuffles anytime a song is added to a playlist but that shuffle order persists. Anytime I played something it would play the exact same order. That was like 2 years ago. I’ve not bothered with it since Apple Music.

I switched to Apple Music last year because it’s a bit cheaper in my country too. And because I wanted my music and podcasts to be on separate apps. I don’t really miss Spotify all that much, but yeah the discovery stuff on Spotify is a little bit better.

like many things, it depends. If you live and die by letting Spotify choose your music based on your listening, then yes, Spotify is better at that.

but if you just want a simple music player that isn’t also trying to shoehorn in podcast or other things, that just plays music for you, and that offers, lossless quality, AM for the win.

I had three months of Apple Music free when I was a Spotify user and so out of boredom I gave it a shot and at the end of the three months canceled my Spotify. I could give a shit about my Spotify wrapped sharing thing, and two things really started to annoy me about Spotify. the first was the way I had to look at artists if I just wanted to peruse. It made me look at either all the artists i “followed” (which is not really related to what you might have in your library in anyway) or it would represent an artist entire library to me instead of just the ones I had downloaded. and the second one was the frequency at which I would have downloaded music that wouldn’t play because something in the app made it so when I clicked on say, Nirvana, it would reach out to the Internet to show me nirvana’s sort of my space, splash page, and when there was no service would say give me an error about no service… even though I would have three albums “downloaded.” this is the thing that happened beyond just a single bug, because I used Spotify for probably a decade.

annnnyway, I made the switch, and I think Apple Music is way better experience on mobile AND they have a lot more music. The desktop app is still just a skin version of iTunes that looks like it’s from 2001 and I am completely fucking baffled that they haven’t redesigned it, but it’s nothing worth throwing the baby out with the bathwater for

I have tried nearly all of the main streaming apps and all of them except Apple Music are awful (IMO) for artist perusal. Like you said, you get a splash page of the artist with a lot of (potentially) useless information, when all you really want is the music - and specifically the music you have added.

More for the OP, but if you are using CarPlay, I find the AM behaviour to be much better than others. Say you want to play the album ‘Ride the Lightning’ by Metallica…AM you go Artists > Metallica > you see the albums of theirs you added > then choose RTL and then it plays. With Spotify, you view Artists, then find Metallica, but once you tap Metallica it just starts playing random songs from them. INSANE. You basically have to use Siri to say “play the album RTL by Metallica.” That might be fine for most people, but I find that to be baffling.

It’s very easy to get Spotify for free. Just saying. Allegedly. I wouldn’t know myself of course.

    Disclaimer personal opinion only.

Apple had less podcasts but more songs than Spotify in 2022 (last time I checked). You might find songs that are on Spotify but not on Apple.

You can add songs to Apple super easy through iTunes. Just drag and drop the song there on your PC and it auto syncs to your phone (awesome)

Spotify has better song recommendations in my opinion but Apple works good enough for me. I often find new songs I like.

Lossless and moreover Dolby atmos is absolutely beautiful if you have the right headphones. That’s my main reason for Apple.

Apple works better with appletv and iPhone

Spotify works better with iPhone to anything non Apple related.

My friends use Spotify mostly so shared playlists are not comfortable usable for you anymore and some other Spotify exclusive features of course.

If your friends use Apple you get nearly all features. Love the carplay integration so your friends can play music in your car via QR code if they have an iPhone (Apple Music not required for them) love the feature because I don’t have to constantly unlock my phone for them and pass it around.

Siri and Apple work way better with carplay than Spotify.

You get lyrics with Apple and you can search for lyrics and find the song.

It’s going to be a very similar experience. Two things I noticed were that Apple Music has a much better shuffle algorithm, and it’s much easier to import music into Apple Music, but they’re very similar experiences.
