Hello:

I have a 2018 Macbook on its last leg (spilled coffee on the damn thing). I have a 2019 replacement coming soon, but not sure I trust this machine to fire up again (the battery is totally shot).

Yes I know how to copy files to an external hard drive BUT I will be wanting to keep the software I have (yes some of it is cracked), and therefore re-installing software is not ideal - or even an option. So…

Can I clone everything from the internal SSD to an external hard drive and THEN clone it again to the newer Mac - or is this just a Mac-to-Mac process? THANK YOU

I just used the “Migrate” function to transfer all the data from my old and new(er) Macbook pros, just had to connect with a thunderbolt cable and it was super fast & easy.
