Wanted to make a NAS for me to be able to share data between my mac/iOS devices and PC. Honestly dont need a huge amount of data, and wanted to do this on the cheap side, but had a few questions.

  1. I wanted to keep by budget for everything under $200 or so. I originally wanted to do a 2x8TB (one for parity) setup but realized how expensive it would have gotten for the 2 drives alone, and realized 8TB is way too much, considering that most of my data on my largest capacity device is games.

  2. Would it be sensible to just operate with a RPi? Or would I be better off using a 3rd Gen Pentium that I have laying around (which just needs a case and maybe a better PSU)

I honestly dont need huge speeds, considering this would mainly act as a nightly backup. I am not doing any transcoding for plex with the system either, so quicksync isnt important.
