I know this topic has been discussed many times in the past. I really wanted to give an iPhone a try coming from an Android, but the navigation on the phone seems to be a huge downgrade.
The back button is in most applications out of reach with one hand. And swiping on the right edge is not user friendly for a right hander.
On android you can do that from both sides and it makes the overall experience much smoother!
Will apple ever catch up with android?
I came from android too and have to disagree. Only had the 15PM a few weeks but the fact a slight down swipe at the bottom of the screen brigs the screen down to reachable with one hand is a total winner. Android doesn’t do this and iPhone wins for this alone.
Android have that feature too but I never use it in both. Back gesture on Android is better since you can use them on both sides and it work with every application.
That down gesture I had the s21 ultra and the s22 ultra and it never worked on either. Not through lack of trying either.
It worked on my regular S22, but I hardly use it. I feel like that’s the main problem with Android - lot of features but only a few work well. Still, I have to admit, the back gesture is better than the iPhone.
Careful man, everyone hates Android here lmao. Anyway, I kinda agree, I’m using iPhone for 2 years now and still miss that feature.
(Apple fans won’t know, so don’t ever argue)
I prefer Android over iOS and I find this sub to be way more level headed when compared to Android subs.
I also agree with the gestures, they are making big strides though. USB C, what next iTunes redesign for windows? If only haha.
That warning came a little bit late, but I appreciate it 🤭
I was about to make the switch from Samsung to Apple, but after reading most of the comments, I think staying with Android is the less evil.
I used my android most of the time with the buttons and came across the gestures only a month ago. I was really surprised, since iOS doesn’t even have buttons, that their navigations feels less intuitive than android.
And for so many years I was told, Android is complicated.
useless post
useless comment.
The first thing I disable on my android tablet is the bottom taskbar that contain back gesture, take up space and yet a simple swipe does the trick. Thankfully, Samsung tablet is support swipe to go back gesture
That’s so true, I have switched from Android to iPhone for 2 months, and gesture is the thing I miss the most. But I don’t think they’re going to change it anytime soon, though, because the overall experience on the iPhone is still way better.
not all app can be swiped halfway. Wish apple adds swipe from another side…
I often wonder why Apple don’t just bake in the back function natively system-wide instead of only on their own apps and basically recommend developers to put it in. Seems weird, but there has to be a reason I would guess. Yes, the back gesture is better on Android but the swipe system as a whole is a lot more fluid and buttery on iOS in my opinion.
Apple does not support this gesture in its apps either. Example: if you go to your profile from the App Store (top right icon) then you can’t go back comfortably from the bottom, you have to go up with your finger to the top of the screen.
Honestly hard disagree
One of the things I liked the most switching from Android a few years ago was the swipe gestures. They feel so much smoother and more natural on iOS
Guess I’ll see soon, in a few days I’ll be one of those dumbasses with two phones and two phone plans 🙃 (getting a Pixel 8)
I have both iPhone and Android phones, because I’m mobile app developer. My primary phone is the iPhone. Android only for testing apps, and rarely use. I find navigation on iOS way better. I think this is maybe a habit. I’m using iPhone as my primary phone since iPhone 4. All that years I own Android too, and never considered making the Android phone my primary use device.
How is it more natural on iOS when you’ve to stretch your thumb to the left edge to make a return swipe?
How small are your hands, this honestly just seems like moaning for moaning’s sake
I use Android solely because of this reason. It is so much easier to navigate.
I actually just switched from Apple to Android. I switched to the gestures control scheme, but personally I found that I liked it less than the gestures experience on iPhone and went back to the classic button control scheme.
wow, as a left handed person i never even considered this would be an issue for anyone, but that actually makes sense if you’re one of those odd right handed people
Yeah! those pathetic right handed people 🤭
I switched to iPhone recently and definitely noticed the difference in navigation, but I’ve pretty much already gotten used to it and don’t really think about it anymore. I do wish Apple would standardize this nonetheless and it would really help with one handed operation and reducing the need to adjust the phone in your hand.
Most apps don’t need to be swiped from the very left edge…. You can swipe from halfway across the screen and it still registers.
But not all of them. And the swipe gesture has different length in every app, in some apps you need to barely touch it, in some apps you have to drag through entire screen. Consistency is what matters the most for me, and it’s just not there on iPhones. I left android 2 years ago and I still not completely used to iPhones gesture system.
