Hello all,

I have acquired a decomissioned server from my employer and it seems to be a custom from Dell. The tag has some information on it, it is a Dell NEI E-2710 and there is not a lot of info online about this model. It did not come with power supplies, but came with everything else; I would like to use it to start my homelab.

It specifically shows ratings for -48 VDC on the power label, however I cannot find any DC power supplies anywhere online, even if I could I cannot power this in my home as it is. It appears take standard dell server power supplies that would fit in an R710 for example.

I guess my question is, can anyone tell me if I would be able to just buy a normal AC power supply and power this thing? Sorry if it is a silly question, I have done my own looking but I find some conflicting answers so figured I would ask here. Thanks in advance everyone!

Is your employer a Telco or similar?

48VDC is what telecoms kit and more importantly the old analogue phones ran on, so they had that with 110 or 240 AC being less available

Hence PSUs being designed for that

You should be able to replace with a standard AC PSU as I’m sure they didn’t have separate motherboards as they let the PSUs deal with the different voltages
