is it not possible to pick up Fields fifth year option to keep them around for another year, while you draft the top QB prospect? You could then trade whichever one doesn’t work out. sounds crazy but crazier things have been done. Any thoughts?

I want bears to trade back a tad, land more O line talent, edge rushers, and a wr. Love how the secondary is shaping up with the new young core, but I miss Roquan roaming the middle. Fields has the talent to build around. Chi town has never had more potential at qb. I have spoken.

“ Hey everyone i’m the Bears new HC after eberfluss, when they told me I was stuck with a QB who in three years has a 60% completion rating, a 6-26 record, thrown for under 6,000 yards total and has a 36/27 INT ratio! I was thrilled, how could I turn down that job?”

I think some people don’t understand that the option is for 2025, not next year. It just has to be picked up after this season

I think my biggest concern and this isn’t a direct answer to this question so I apologize. But my concern is who’s developing these offensive talents. As a die hard Bears fan, it’s exhausting to watch year after year an offense that underperforms, players not playing / reaching their full talent and potential. Bad schemes , play calling, in-game adjustments , late game adjustments. This falls on coaching and player development. I watch a team like the Houston Texans as this seasons progressed and you see a lot of young talent on the offensive side of the football that has really started this season (especially the last 5 games) that has flashed signs of brilliance. Stroud, Tank Dell, Nico Collins are all first or second year players exceeding expectations and showing great chemistry. It’s not perfect , but my point is here you see these guys are being well coached, being put into situations to “be themselves” , but also be well coached , and the high IQ and chemistry isn’t something in consistency the bears have had. I wonder if Stroud was a Bear would he be having the exact success he is as a Rookie in Houston? Te conclusion I come to is probably not. I’m open to everyone’s thoughts and opinions, just sharing my own. Please feel free to share your thoughts as well. Thanks all Bear Down 🐻

Pick up the option and draft a day 3 QB bc I’m not sold on any of the 2 top QBs in the draft and taysom is a good backup at best rn. Continue to build around Justin. If he is him, agree to pay a premium when you need to resign him. If he is not, I don’t trust this organization to develop a new quarterback anyway. I’d rather go the route of acquiring a veteran like a Stafford, Peyton Manning to Denver, type situation.

Opportunity cost. Whether we draft a QB only to stick them on the bench in favor of Fields or whether we pick up Fields’s option only to pay him to sit on the bench, we’d be using resources that could have been put toward a player who could provide a much more direct and immediate impact to us. Sure we could trade whoever loses the QB competition, but then every team would know that whoever we’re trading lost the QB competition.

Because that would be stupid. There’s a reason teams don’t do this. It’s a distraction. Shit we go ape shit over practice squad QBs. Do we really want our rookie QB getting yells to be replaced with fields because he has a slow start and Fields Stan’s are parasocial as fuck? Na, move on and try to learn from mistakes.
