Hi all. New to air tags, have only had them since summer.

My husband and I each have air tags on our keys. Today he went into a store for 5 mins, and I stayed in the car. He left his keys behind.

I just noticed now, an hour later, that I have a notification of an air tag tracking me. The mapping is the same as where he went into the store. When I choose “play a sound”, from inside our house, my phone says it can’t detect the AirTag. When I choose learn about this AirTag and bring his AirTag close to my phone, nothing happens.

We are a family in our Apple accounts. Would family members receive this type of notification? If so, why can’t my phone detect his AirTags now despite being 10 feet away, and then directly in my hand?

I get notifications about my wife’s items all the damn time. Her items are shared with me. It’s wild how you can’t permanently disable these notifications.

that’s odd, could be a glitch with the family sharing feature. i’d contact apple support to see if they can help troubleshoot.

Air tags do strange things. My air tags on my work items like my briefcase, lunch bag and id badge are not detected by my daughter when we drive to work, but when we walk home together, her phone warned her that an AirTag was following her.

In your case, if your husband took his phone with him, the AirTag separated from his phone. He would have gotten a left behind message and you got the air tag nearby, which is supposed to happen.
